(IF) you had the position of Athletic Director at WCU, who would be your top replacement candidates for Bobby and why?

Before firing any coach they need to start with the athletic director!! There lies the biggest issue. From what I hear he has made the statement he wasn't concerned as much about winning than academics and graduating kids. I too agree we should graduate kids but if we do not care about winning why do we even play athletics? We should just have club teams and bypass the athletics all together. We need an athletic director that is FOR the athletics and to win. After watching several of the baseball games this weekend. We are SOOOOO far away from all these schools and their facilities. These days the kids want to come to a place that looks nice and takes care of their athletes. WCU doesn't do either. And from all I read on these message boards the university higher ups and athletic director do not care about bettering our facility's and especially the baseball facility. Our baseball facility is a joke compared to almost ALL others in our conference and around the country. Until the university higher ups and AD give a crap about our sports NOTHING will ever change. Unfortunately I see things getting worse until these in charge are gone and we get people in that care about our athletic programs. ECU takes care of their athletics and facilities are so much nicer and same for Coastal Carolina just to name a couple. Our baseball facility compared to theirs is just a decent high school field. This does not fall on coaching. Recruits want to play in a nice facility and be taken care of. That hinders recruiting. This is just my opinion and you know the saying on that lol

This is just my opinion and you know the saying on that lol Well if Bardo wasnt involved years ago we would have one of the main things that we needed at WCU a clubhouse at the field. It would be almost 20 years old by now but still alot better than lockeroom in the Ramsey Center!! That guy was an @$$ clown and basically said no i dont want your money after everything was set. More than doubling the travel budget is a start. Kids also want to play at the big guys and we need to play at the big guys on the road to get RPI up if and when we back to being good. Home games are nice but need to play on road especially being in the SoCon now which is not very good. Being now 95% fully funded is great and need to go after the NC kids. Going to have to over pay to get kids right now because program is down but do what you have to and when get back to winning the price will come down. Also More than doubling the recruiting budget is nice but doesnt do crap if can recruit right or good talent. This info coming second hand but heard one of the JuCo pitchers we have coming in that is "supposed" to be a weekend starter would be the #8 or #9 pitcher on a DII staff. I would love to hear some of the names some of you out there throw out as such great replacements?

Yes, the facilities need some revamping. Recruiting is good, however, keeping recruits has been a challenge. It takes a coach who is a great teacher of the game to have a successful team. Not a coach who is self-absorbed. A coach who stands up for his players and encourages them to get better... not tear them down. Hope to see this happen sooner than later. The way the past few years have gone, the players would be better off coaching themselves.

2019 RPI - 207 out of 299
here's something to think about. if the cats won every single one of their games in any given season, they would still have to go on the road to play in a regional... put that into perspective. the facilities are so sub par compared to everyone else that even the most deserving team in the country wouldn't be able to play at home for a regional.
ECU has hosted multiple regionals over the past couple of years. Coastal has hosted multiple regionals.
if I was a recruit in todays day/age... why would I ever consider going somewhere where I have to get dressed, get back in my car and drive to the field? then when the game is over, I have to spend the next hour on field maintenance before "driving" back to my locker...
we are being left behind in the worst way...

we are being left behind in the worst way... In all fairness you CAN NOT compare WCU to ECU and Coastal. For one thing ECU is a FBS school in much larger conference alot more resources than WCU will ever have. Our former coach however did help raise most of the money for their stadium though. So dont even try and compare the two. Coastal also has moved up to FBS and had to get extra funding for that plus they right at Myrtle Beach which is not a bad draw compared to Mtns. When we opened up there in 1999 their facilities were not much better than ours but still better even back then. They choose to invest in their program and WCU has not. If you really want to compare programs you should look at UNCG. Not the above teams. UNCG has far passed us in facilities and they get NC recruits over us even the kids from Asheville. One reason was because we could not offer those kids enough money where UNCG could and can. Plus we do we even have the hotel accommodations required to host a regional? If we were ever in the position to host we would do so in Asheville im sure. BTW Coastal used to host regionals at the local minor league park before they built their new stadium

Hosting regionals goes mostly to the big schools these days. It's not a stretch to say that we would have to be ranked in the top 25 to even have the opportunity to host given the larger schools around us that typically are the #1 seed for their region. Greenville NC was THE ONLY non-power 5 host last weekend and all super regionals this weekend are on power 5 campii. We know NCAA is only about the $$$ and giving the big schools home field advantage stinks. The other travesty is that non P5 schools get shafted in the at-large picks now as well. It will be a cold day when the SoCon gets two bids in pretty much any sport with the current philosophy.

fair enough. sure one school is at the beach, and the other school is just flat out run better than ours. but here are some other "more realistic options" of schools which could potentially host a regional (yes indicates there is no doubt)
College Of Charleston - yes
ETSU
Wofford
Mercer
UNC G - yes
APP ST
Georgia Southern - yes
Winthrop - Absolutely
Gardner Webb
High Point - yes
James Madison - absolutely
UNCW
UNCC - Yes
whatever excuse you want to make, we ARE recruiting against these teams. we are not some D2 team trying to earn our way up to playing with the big boys. we are certainly not a startup looking to grow the program. I'm tired of the excuses.. the teams listed above are teams we have to recruit against and beat on a regular basis (and that's the way it used to be). there is 0 reason why the facilities at Western Carolina are so poor compared to the competition.
so sick of the mediocrity and the excuses.

I agree 100% its a joke. Its better to start with comparing our facilities to others in our own conference not two teams who are in the top 25 on regular basis. We are probably dead last in facilities within the SoCon and have one of the highest paid coaches in the league. It does not make any sense. You can start with the fact we have a scoreboard that is 27 years old. With no way to know id bet you would be hard pressed to find another D1 school even close to that heck even a high school. Do kids want to see their face and stats up on a scoreboard? Absolutely it goes to another disadvantage in recruiting. You would think even the administration would be embarrassed at this fact. Its not the 90s anymore we arent going to find the Grundy's(Kentucky) and Beverlin's(Michigan) of the world and get them to Cullowhee. Kids are way to exposed now. When your years and behind your competition its kinda hard to compete. Ive mentioned that they more than doubled the travel and recruiting budget along with now finally being 95% funded the only way your gonna get kids is to overpay them. Which we could not do until now. Speaking of Grundy his kid is now at GSU. Ive never seen him play but i sure as hell would have made sure he came to WCU if he wanted to and is good enough for GSU.

It comes down to this. Athletics of any kind are NOT A PRIORITY at Western Carolina. For those of you that are hard of hearing, I have indicated the key words in bold type underlined. So until those words can be changed and athletics is a priority so that facilities and everything athletics is upgraded, we will continue to lose and be behind all of the other teams in the conference and all of the teams of similar size in the South. Increase the funding and we blow past these other schools.
