I understand that we may be without Tyrie for a while due to “unforeseen circumstances”. With that being said, I don’t believe that Will Jones is the answer... Malik Richardson is one of the highest rated recruits to ever commit to WCU(even higher than Tyrie).. I think he should be the starter!! No doubt! Thoughts?

I certainly think Will should get the start Saturday. Judging him against State, especially with the circumstances he was thrown into, isn't fair. Will look very good against Gardner Webb last year, IMO he's a better passer than Tyrie. Certainly should also play Malik on Saturday as well and if he plays better than Will, he should start from there.

I would love to see Richardson get playing time this weekend. I'd also like to see our offensive coordinators get a little creativity with the play calling. The offense in the first two games have not impressed me much.

Will has proven himself more than capable and should get the start without question.

We don’t run a spread and a Pro- Style does not bode well. We need a kid with an arm that can make plays on the run which is why Tyrie has done so well. Malik would do the same if not better. Only reason I can see them not playing him is to redshirt him.

Will has shown that he can make great throws in our passing game and he is a dangerous runner in his own right. Malik is a freshman and his recruit rating is irrelevant. There is no reason to believe that he can run the offense better than Will at this point. High School performance means nothing. If the coaches put Malik in it would tell the rest of the team that practice, performance and commitment to the program has no value.

I also understand that Bubba Williamson has shown that he is more prepared to take over than the freshman.

However, he is a not an RPO type QB & Speir will not change the offense to help Will be more effective. Since Speir arrived in Cullowhee, he has been dogmatic about running the Spread Offense. He has never had a backup QB that could successfully run this offense. Therefore, for the last 7 years he has put those seasons in jeopardy because he would not adjust the offense to match the talents of his players. After watching the NC State Game, we were still running the RPO Offense with a Drop Back Pro Style QB that only ran the ball to avoid being sacked. Tyrie is a running back that can throw the Football. However, Will is a throwing QB & not an Elusive Running Back like Tyrie.

I can't even believe we are actually commenting on this status. After last week, I am ALL IN on Will.
I'm not going to throw in the towel on him in a game we were completely overmatched. At almost every position. We are commenting on bench him on others positional failures.
We need him to be prepared for Chattanooga. Take care of business this weekend. Get a game plan. Go on the road and get a W versus Chat and let's get some confidence behind him.

I expect (hope) as the season goes on that the coaches install more plays that utilize Will's skills. If they do then we have a chance to win games or at least be competitive. If they don't change the offense it won't matter who is QB.
