For such a big game the crowd did not show. I don't understand why we can get the best football crowd in the Socon but middle of the pack or lower end in the socon with basketball Two Reasons: 1. There is no tailgating before games. 2. Pride of the Mountains doesn't have a halftime or post game show. Football always has great crowds in the first half and then after the halftime show, it thins out a little. If you want to get student to come to games, then you better be doing some giveaways. That worked when I was a student.

With that said, I’m of the opinion that students are the majority of fans that show out. WCU needs more regional involvement. Unfortunately/ a lot of North Carolinians would rather pay a little more to go to a Duke,UNC, Wake, or NC State game. Alternatively I would argue that the Ramsey center is way to big. An attendance of even 3,000-4,000 fans look small in the RAC. Whereas, at ETSU’s arena is smaller but it feels more packed with that many. I don’t think there is an easy solution. The student population is around 11,000 and the RAC holds somewhere around 8,000. Even if 2,000 students showed up it would look empty.

Exciting win!
Nothing stopping anyone from tailgating at a basketball game; thats my plan for my annual trip up for a basketball game this year!

First of all, congrats on a very good start to the season. I tend to agree with this poster. I was surprised at the low attendance with y'all have such a strong start to the year. Y'all should do a big tailgate before the rivalry game against Asheville. Looking forward to that game. Should be another good one.

WCU home games= 2 - 1,797 average UNC-A home games= 3 - 1,261 average The bulldogs draw from a city of 93,392, in a county population of 278,791 The Cats draw from an unincorporated area (Cullowhee) of 6,538, in a county population of 43,961

RAC is totally too big, although the rationale for building it at the time wasn't out of line. It might be hard to imagine for the younger folks, but Cullowhee was famous for being a really tough place to play prior to Ramsey, and crowds at Reid were regularly in the 3,500 - 4,000 range, which was capacity. This is no exaggeration. It was fun! And that was with a student body about half as big as it is now. I believe Ramsey has been full once, and that was the night it opened, vs. NC State. Now, in the age of more cozy on-campus facilities, it's easy to think that a renovated Reid might've been a better call, but Ramsey also met other desperate needs for athletics. The current strategy of eliminating seats to focus the crowd isn't horrible, and they're using lighting/lens filters to focus on the court during telecasts, and that's probably a pretty good idea too. A better product on the floor will help, although our OOC schedule isn't much of a draw

That worked when I was a student. It was a decent, enthusiastic crowd (2,000 or so) for a Saturday afternoon with everybody focused on football. McNeese is a good team, but not exactly a household name around here. More importantly, we pulled out the win! It's pretty painful when football draws the biggest crowd in the conference on a beautiful homecoming afternoon then lays an egg. Ouch. I'm sure marketing was banging its forehead on the desk after that one.

We had 2100 last weekend against our first D1 opponent at home. We never draw well when we play DII's. No team does. The numbers will rise. Keep in mind as well, UNCA only has 3k students. Nearly 4 times smaller than WCU. We'll average between 1700-2100 by the end of the season.

It's nothing against the fans. I'm just surprised at the turnout at WCU basketball games, since y'all turnout well for football.
