We are on the right track though and we had a great year. Also with the talent that Coach Bell has brought in, it is hard not to be very excited about the future.

I did not hear Bell's postgame comments. What was his reaction?

He probably had no comments. I hope he does not use Cole's injury as the sole reason we lost. He needs to confront his very bad defense

Two lines of thinking: Optimistic: 1) We finished with a better overall record and in conference record from our previous year, and we return the bulk of our starters next season Realistic: 2) We started the season 5-0 vs the FCS and then finished the last five games 2-3 vs the FCS. I'm not in an emotional place to process all of this yet........just 🤬

Agree FLCAT. Just 3 or 4 years ago we were begging to simply be competitive. We got competitive in Bell’s first year, and now have back-to-back winning seasons. Things usually are not quite as good or bad as they seem. We have a lot of good players coming back, and we were ranked for a large part of the season and certainly a win away from ending a 40-year playoff drought.
It will be considered a good season that could have been great. We need to get deeper at key positions, and we need to figure out how to limit turnovers and eliminate stupid penalties and blown coverages.
We’ll be a year older and hopefully a year wiser next season. Will it translate to a better team and record - don’t know. Right now “disappointed” is the word of the day. I am sure the coaches and players are as disappointed as any of us fans.

WCU football is cursed. My neighbor who was there in the Bob Waters era continues to remind me how they treated him towards the end before he passed away. He says we are cursed, and we will never do anything in football. I try to be positive but I’m starting to think he’s 100% correct. Oh well, on to round ball I guess I was there toward the end of the Bob Waters era. I don't think that WCU treated him badly. I think it was a totally lose-lose scenario. Sad on both counts. And here's hoping that, by saying that out loud...or at least typing it out loud...we can put an end to the curse. Regarding this year's team, I thought we were a year ahead of scheduled for playoff talk. Now, I guess we are back on schedule, hopefully.

I understand we are a young team. But it concerns me we didn't get better as the season went along. It looked as if the team ran out of gas.

I think the injury situation was much worse than we thought is one of the major reasons. Having lived through the previous coaching staffs, I am very happy with the coaching staff we have.

I think it was after Wofford (or could have been ETSU) that I heard Bell comment that we were a better team then, than we were at the start of the season. I don't see that as being true. We seem to have regressed, IMO, ever since the Furman game for some reason. Going 2-3 in our last five games is not improving, so Bell has a lot of work to do this off season.

Very disappointed. We should never lose to VMI. But progress is being made by Coach Bell and his staff. That's what I have looking for all along. Looking forward to seeing who the new recruits will be and looking forward to more progress next year. Maybe we can win a SoCon championship before I die...
