Don’t you think Gray will talk him into staying. It says he has an Agent. He is 18 and has an agent. Geez things have changed since I was a pup. The kids good though. He might be able to go to the ACC or SEC.

Not sure why we care? That's someone else's problem, WCU has enough of our own to spend time on CCU.

For some reason, everyone likes to disparage Coastal, and I don't understand why - If you look into their athletics, they've pretty much provided the "Blue Print!"
In 2003, when they began football, their President said, "I don't want to merely succeed in athletics, I want to dominate!" And that became the mission of everyone in athletics, academics, administration and alumni. Since then they have won a baseball Natty, hosted ESPN College Game Day, they had the best golfer walking on the planet for 64 consecutive weeks (and a total of 130 weeks), they bypassed the SoCon (who would not accept them) and went straight to FBS, and now they even host a Bowl Game. I think we should aspire to do what they have done, rather than continue to reward mediocrity! This demonstrates that most people fail fail in life, not because they aim too high and miss, but because they aim too low........and hit!
I have a lot of Coastal gear (don't worry; I did not pay a dime, all of it was free) and when I wear it around Atlanta, people always give me the "Chants Up" symbol with their hands. Conversely, when I wear my WCU apparel, people typically ask "where is WCU?" And I am only 2 hours and 15 minutes away from Cullowhee!
By the way - before you attack me, I hope I have proven my immense love and support for WCU over the last 33 years. In fact, I am increasing my membership level again this year from Champions to Trophy. And, I will be at the BWM at Sequoyah Golf Club the day before the home opener.

You are correct in everything you said

I agree that CCU has the blueprint. My question is, why can’t Western follow it and dominate? The answer is that our Administration and BOT do not want to dominate in athletics and want to do the bare minimum to remain in D1 because athletics is not a priority at Western Carolina. CCU has about the same enrollment as Western but we do not want to spend the money. Western does not have sports facilities or teams that their alumni can be proud of because that is not important to our leadership. We have another blueprint for academics and athletics that has never worked and never will.

It would greatly help WCU's cause if we had a guy to help launch all the stuff that CCU did in football like Joe Maglia. I know they had some immediate success when they started football before he coached partly due to them being in a weak Big South, and they have also had past success and a Natty in baseball. But to really take off in football you have to get big time donations on top of (or exceeding) what the school provides. In my opinion CCU is where they are in football because their supporters wanted it and paid in to make it happen. Same blueprint at other schools that were like us at one point (App, Liberty, etc.) and it is the same blueprint at big schools (Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, etc.). Their alumni and wide fan base dump tons of money into the program and demand winning, and are willing to pay for it. Every school administration is going to say they want to be good in sports (particularly football). The ones the really are successful make it less on what the school does and more on their supporters. Schools aren't making all those big buyouts or paying the big coach's salaries - that is mostly coming from donors. And WCU simply doesn't have enough whales (or the ones we do have are not going to put all their money into WCU athletics).
I am not saying the admin at WCU hasn't made plenty of head-scratching past decisions. Or that we are as all-in on athletics as some of the other schools. But I am saying these other schools dwarf us in fundraising probably way more than they do in student fees and admin support. I want us to be good and if I had an extra $5M laying around to give I would. At some of these other places, people have it and are giving it.
