Tuscola senior Logan Lambert accepted a preferred walk-on position with Western Carolina University. Lambert is a soccer-style kicker. “(Western Carolina coach Mark Speir) was very open and honest about Logan’s chances to compete at the next level,” Tuscola football coach Brandon Allen said. “I’m excited for him, not every young man has the opportunity to play (in college), but the chance to do something you love to do on a trip like this to Paris. He’s going to have the chance to play with a bunch of other young men and build relationships that will last for quite some time.” blogs2.citizen-times.com/hshuddle/2014/03/17/tuscolas-lambert-to-kick-in-paris/

BRYSON CITY – Raymius Smith and Zach Weeks are headed to opposite ends of the state after graduating high school. But they came together to win a ton of football games for Swain County the past few years. The Maroon Devils said Monday that Smith (East Carolina) and Weeks (Western Carolina) have accepted preferred walk-on positions with a pair of Division I programs. Swain County will hold a signing ceremony for the seniors Tuesday morning in its gym. Smith is a quarterback who was the 2013 Smoky Mountain Conference back of the year, while Weeks was tabbed the SMC lineman of the year. www.citizen-times.com/story/sports/2014/04/14/hs-notes-swains-smith-weeks-pick-colleges/7722333/
