'Big challenges' await Briggs at Cherokee Facilities at Cherokee have been second to none in Western North Carolina football since the Braves began playing inside a $10 million stadium in 2009. But the product on the field has suffered. The Braves have a 15-42 record the past five seasons under three coaches. The Smoky Mountain Conference school announced last week that former Western Carolina University coach Kent Briggs is going to be the latest to try and turn around a program which won back-to-back SMC championships as recently as 2006 and 2007. “I’ve recruited all over the country, and I really believe this is one of the most beautiful areas in the world,” Briggs said. www.citizen-times.com/article/20140113/SPORTS/301130016/-Big-challenges-await-Briggs-Cherokee

I want to wish my former classmate Kent Briggs the best in his new job at Cherokee. The Braves had a rough go around the last couple of years, but the late 1990's around 1997-1998 were as tough as the last couple of seasons!
