Saturday's game was suspended going into the bottom of the 4th with the Citadel leading 2-0. On Sunday, game one will be completed, and a second game will be played. This will only be a two game series.

I had some deep concerns about playing the CitDogs this weekend, but the Cats took care of those concerns, along with the CitDogs.
Turns out, it would have been good if we could have played all 3 games this weekend. I'm sure the waiting around to see if/when the weather was going to clear must have been bad for those parents and fans who did so. For those who were not able to follow the action: Friday was a rain-out. Saturday we played 3 1/2 innings and the rain suspended the game. Sunday (today) we completed the suspended game (won 5-4) and played Game 2 (won 8-2) of the weekend. Game 3 did not happen.
Some heroes this weekend...
Dykota Speiss. Came back to Cullowhee today after being home all this week with his family. His father died on Thursday after a courageous battle with cancer. Our hearts go out to the Speiss family. Dykota entered the suspended game today when it resumed and made the game-winning RBI double in the 8th inning. What a fitting ending!
Jordan Smith. Pitched another lights-out complete game in the second game today. After today, Jordan is #1 in Catamount history in Games Started; #4 in Innings Pitched (only 4 innings behind Mark DiFelice for #3 all time); #6 in Career Strikeouts (only 1 behind Jack Kimel and 5 behind Phillip Grundy); #7 in Career Wins (only 1 behind Phillip Grundy and 4 behind Jason Beverlin).
Adam Martin - Produced 3 RBI's in the 2 games to continue his SoCon RBI lead with 46.
Bradley Strong - Scored 2 runs in the 2 games to continue his SoCon Runs Scored lead with 45.
Gotta go to Clemson mid-week. They seem to have corrected most of the early-season problems that plagued them. Will be a tough game.

The Citadel baseball website had what I thought was a well-written wrapup of the first game of the weekend. Very respectful and complimentary of the situation with Dykota Speiss. Exactly what I would have expected from The Citadel, an institution for which I have utmost respect.
WESTERN RALLIES FOR VICTORY IN COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME
Cullowhee, N.C. – Dykota Spiess doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, giving Western Carolina a 5-4 win over The Citadel in the completion of a game suspended on Saturday evening.
The Catamounts (25-12, 10-3 SoCon) trailed 2-0 when the game was halted by rain in the bottom of the fourth, but rallied against Logan Cribb and Skylar Hunter to take the opener of an abbreviated two-game set.
The game was tied at 4 when Hunter relieved Cribb to start the Western half of the eighth. Pinch hitter Luke Gragg drew a one-out walk, and Spiess followed with a line drive that split Hughston Armstrong and Tyler Griffin in right center to bring the running Gragg all the way home.
The game-winning hit was particularly poignant for Spiess, who was not in the original starting lineup after his father passed away on Thursday night. He drew a walk as a pinch hitter in the fourth before his dramatic moment in the eighth
