A Georgia development company will rebuild the campus strip at Western Carolina University devastated by fire last year, home to seven small, locally owned businesses. Space for an estimated 350 students opens up for WCU when Ambling University Development Group of Valdosta, Ga., finishes building ground-floor retail space and upper-floor housing. Having more beds dovetails nicely with a possible university mandate requiring that sophomores join freshmen in living on campus. The developers meet this week with WCU officials to flesh out their plans, Vice Chancellor Robert Edwards said. The university’s Endowment Fund owns the 4.1 acres on Centennial Drive. www.thesylvaherald.com/top_stories/article_bf3bd9a4-43f8-11e4-acfa-001a4bcf6878.html
