Myles Murphy was offered today by the Tar Heels, he has it pinned to his tweeter page, so he'll never set foot in Cullowhee.

Myles Murphy was offered today by the Tar Heels, he has it pinned to his tweeter page, so he'll never set foot in Cullowhee. Who needs him if he wants to be a heel? You win some, you lose some. I wonder what our offer to accept ratio is for a given year? I bet we get about 1 for every 5 to 10 kids we offer. Western is not for everybody and all the kids want to play in the ACC or the SEC for the prestige. Some kids just want to go to a bigger school and sit on the bench so they can say they are on the team. Nothing we can do about that but wish them well and move on.

I don't mean to be totally purple, but we have a number of players who were offered by FBS schools and they opted for WCU. As long as we have a solid system and culture, we'll pick up a couple of guys who believe they'll make a bigger impact at an FCS school than riding the bench for a power 5 school.

From first-hand experience, being verbally offered and having something to sign come signing day are not always the same. I think it is great we are identifying these kids and actively offering them early. There is something to be said about being the first, and assuming we still keep contact with these kids if they don't get what the think they want I'll be ok if we get them in the end as their back-up plan.
As 17 and 18 year olds, very few of us would not have jumped at a UNC or Tennessee offer over WCU - so I am not ridiculing any kid on that front. But some will be looking for a place when it is all said and done and all we can do is position ourselves to get as many good players as possible.
