The Cats would benefit from playing between the hedges every year. Would solve many of our financial limitations and is very close to Cullowhee. Won't and realistically can't happen, but the Dogs are paying Middle Tennessee 1.7M to play in Athens this year. What a payday. Unfortunately I think FCS schools don't get as big a payday as non Big 5 FBS schools. The new normal for us seems to be $500,000 - $700,000 to play schools in the SEC & ACC.

Unfortunately, a school like CCU will get at least 2 times what Western will get for playing a power 5 school, just because they now have that FBS label.

What I saw in the Coastal and Campbell game is that I would love to see both of them on the schedule at some point. Teams like Coastal and Charlotte give us the opportunity to more closely compete against an FBS school, although I know the pay-out wouldn't be what we really want (some would probably argue we might as well play App if we are going to play those guys). Campbell fits with our Big South historical tie-in, is within the state of NC, etc. Plus I think they have done a very nice job with their facilities and stadium, so it is a decent place to go watch a football game. I think that would be an upgrade over the past games we have had with Presbyterian, and certainly "looks" better than playing a D2 or Pioneer team now that they are in the Big South.

I don't see a benefit of playing a Charlotte or Coastal Carolina at their place without having a return visit. Much smaller payout and what do you get if you do beat them. Nothing. We can pound our chests and say that we beat an FCS team. Most folks would say so what if Western beat a Coastal Carolina or Charlotte. Just like playing Liberty who is now on a future schedule. Who cares and the payday will not be that great. I would rather play a Tennessee Tech so that we get the return visit. You mentioned playing App. Absolutely not. That is a lose/lose proposition. Smaller payday, no home and home series and if they beat us everyone will say that they should have beaten us anyway and if they blow us out, it would kill recruiting in NC. I hope we never play the goons again. Hopefully Randy knows better than something that stupid.

Correction - I said "some people" on App. No FBS team is going to come to an FCS venue unless there are circumstances like what happened with Coastal this year, but if we need a game I am saying I'd rather play Coastal or Liberty than Newberry or Mars Hill.
Liberty is actually paying crazy money for games right now, so I don't mind them at all.

I know it is the transitive theory again, but ODU just lost to Charlotte. So I would say they are falling prettty hard. I think one of the rankings I saw had them in the 120s (out of 129 FBS schools).
