One of our challenges this year with attendance will be the teams that are coming to Cullowhee. I don't think we ever get huge away crowds now that App and Georgia Southern are gone, but the teams that usually bring at least a noticeable crowd we play on the road (Mercer, Furman, ETSU). I can seldom make it to home games much less away games, but how do the Catamount fans travel compared to the other schools? I know it typically depends on how good (or bad) a team is, but do we take more people to the other venues than the SoCon schools who visit Cullowhee? There was a noticeable contingent from Newberry - did they bring more fans than most SoCon schools?

It's just my opinion, but I think the Cat fans travel as well as any current fan base in the SoCon. As far as Newberry, they had probably a couple hundred fans, which is about what most of the SoCon schools bring.
Given the current teams in the SoCon, I think our best bet for a decent crowd would be from Furman. As they turn their program around, I expect to see their attendance increase at home and for road games.

only one home game today in the SoCon... Sep. 15, 2018Samford (vs. Mercer) - Attendance: 8,717 Samford is a small school, and if memory serves correct they have a pretty small stadium. So getting close to 9k I think is a pretty big deal for them. Will be interesting to see what kind of crowd they get after the letdown against Mercer (I expect the crowd was at least partly fueled by the hype of the FSU game).

Seibert Stadium seating capacity is listed at 6,700. I watched the game, and on the visitor's side, there was maybe a couple hundred Mercer fans, nowhere near being full not even a third full. The home side (what they did show, looked pretty full), but there were not 6,700 folks there, must less 8,717.

The first time I went to Samford (I think 2010), there weren't 1,500 people in the stands, and the Western fans were louder than the Samford fans. Going back this year, and hope we can pull off the win. Not sure we have won in Homewood (Birmingham) since they joined the SoCon.

Per the Samford board, a big part of their problem is they put the students in a bad section of the stadium (I also think I saw somebody mention 1200 students - not sure if that is a capped number or what???), and they also end up with lots of people who stay up at the top of the stadium to stand and watch rather than heading to their seats. I have never been there, and I was watching the game on my phone so I couldn't tell much about the crowd. But just like everywhere else, it seems they have trouble with fans (particularly students) leaving at halftime.
