Over the past several days I have been reading the Samford and Excuses thread. For me personally I agree with the majority in the fact that some immediate actions must take place. But, what is alarming to me is that a lot of people are posting saying that Randy doesn't have much power in his position and all decisions go through the Admin Building. I would like to test this theory by posting the Athletic Administration contact info. A lot of us are upset and we only vent our frustrations on this board. I say we start bombarding the athletic administration until we get answers. The performance of not only football but the vast majority of WCU athletics is negatively impacting a large part of our alumni base. Let's see what answers we can get. You’re right catnation10. Take it to the people. They may not care, they may not respond, they may not do anything, but at least we did.

I think this is the link you were trying for. www.catamountsports.com/StaffDirectory.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=12100&DB_OEM_ID=12100However, please tell me how this is going to "test your theory"? What is your theory? The white building controls the funding, the athletic department can only manage the budget they receive from the Administration (white building). Now if you are questioning how Randy & staff manage their budget, that's one thing. If you are questioning why the WCU athletic budget is last in the Southern Conference, that's a different question that should be addressed to the white building. If you are questioning why the WCU athletic budget contains the smallest amount contributed by the university in the SoCon, that's another question for the white building. The buck stops at the chancellor's desk (in the white building), I think your questions should be more properly directed to the chancellor and his/her staff.

What are you expecting to be done? Whether it comes from the admin side or the athletics side western has proved many times to be incompetent about what fans want.

Wcu72 you are correct in saying that the admin controls the budget but as the athletic director and head of the department Randy is supposed to fight for more money and could easily do that by proving that western is dead last in the SoCon. He could also use the example of the fact that he’s brought in more money to the catamount club than any other before him. If Eaton were smart he would use that horrible rival that we had in Boone and show that when you win in athletics (mainly football) more money comes with it. Due to three national championships that team not only increased revenues for athletics they increased fundraising and donations to programs, they increased attendance and increased local support all things that Eaton hasn’t been able to do in 7 years.

Donations are up (both the Catamount Club and the "leading the way" campaign), attendance leads the conference in football, and applications and admissions are at an all-time high. We all know what winning athletic teams can do to raise the profile of a university and increase those numbers to become even greater. But with an administration (and state leadership) that has never been all-in for WCU athletics, they are going to be happy with the fact that even with losing teams we still seem to be growing. If Randy takes the "look at what App did" story forward, the suits will simply state the first line of my post.
I do NOT like that, but I am afraid that is going to be the answer. Sadly, the way to make a difference would be to reduce or quit providing support - and nobody wants to do that because in the end that will only hurt the student-athletes short and mid-term while we hope the long-term gets better (after 40 years of proving otherwise).
The pressure should be on the administration, but given the state of the school right now I don't see how we make them feel any real pressure - we probably just have to hope and pray that we get lucky with the new Chancellor.

Unfortunately stopping support will never help anything other than getting rid of programs, look at how that worked out for UAB a few years ago. And if you think the admin/chancellor wont provide any more funding the athletic department as a whole is failing.
Working in athletics is great because everyone wants to be a part of the culture, the problem is Western has no culture or common sense. If you can't get money from admin then you find a way to create more. Make the game day experience better, provide benefits to the fans that they haven't had in the past, hire a company to sell the media rights create better promotions, choose better game times, these are all things that have never been thought of.
The game day experience has been the same for over two decades just for football. Lower ticket prices to get people in the stands, go to a basketball game and half of the ramsey center is covered by black fabric hiding the remaining seats. This athletic department and mainly Eaton as he is the leader has provided no hope for fans, alumni, students or faculty that a change was ever coming.
Donations are at a record high and what have seen from them? No wins, no updates to stadiums until Ramsey is getting a remodel (despite the money not coming from athletics).
This athletic department is failing all over the board, it doesn't matter who is in charge of the administration of the university because the athletic department gets nothing done.

Unfortunately, all your genius things "that have never been thought of" by anyone in athletics, cost money. The game day experience for fans has improved tremendously over the past 5 years. As far as the media right, they would have been sold long ago, IF any media company were remotely interested in WCU athletics, it's been tried multiple times in the past. In the past, every conceivable game start time has been tried. Face it, you just plain hate Randy for some reason. However, he's done wonders with the budget he's been provided. If the white building does not support athletics, there is only so much ANY AD could do. Get a chancellor that will support athletics, and not just cheerlead, and the problems will be well on their way to being solved.
