Pretty interesting reading on the Mercer board. You will notice that the only posts are between FUBeAR and me (seems like this is his personal board), but I thought you guys would like to read for yourself. Much of him stirring the pot comes from the conversation had early-on here on this board... mercer.freeforums.net/thread/662/game-western-carolina-sat-10I am interested to hear what you guys think based on coach's comments. I took them the same way I have all season - Tyrie is our starter, he really likes and has confidence in Will, and that right now he will use either to try and get the "spark" he mentioned. If we had another offensive scheme, I might have a different opinion. But with the heavy RPO plan, the "controversy" we have is strictly because Tyrie is injured and not playing the way he needs to play. Through the first 4 games, a healthy Tyrie meant Jones got limited reps.

I think there is not a controversy for the coaches as to who the #1 QB starter is and will be, it's Adams hands down.
I do think Speir made a mistake the last two games playing Adams, who I don't think was physically ready to play against conference opponents. He should have started Jones both games. What's the worse that could have happened, we lose the game? This would have also given more time for Tyrie to recuperate.

Agree with you 72. If Adams has a rib or sternum issue, like I said before the only thing that is going to fix that is doing a whole bunch of nothing. Playing a timid QB in an RPO-based offense is a recipe for disaster.
I get the whole macho "I am going to play as long as a doctor will clear me" mentality a player takes - they all are going to want to be in the game. So I don't blame Tyrie at all, and assume pure adrenaline allowed him to continue and do amazing things in the 2nd half of the Furman game. But in order for Adams to make our offense as good as it can be, he needs to be both physically and mentally good to go, and I am not sure he hasn't played a little worried about getting hit (and who in the world could blame him) in the past 2 games. I love how hard he normally plays, and how athletic he is. And I would have traded the last 2 losses (which we got anyway) for a truly healthy Tyrie Adams for the rest of the year.

Also, if we are into rumors. App State's guy is at least in the discussion to replace Fedora at UNC. So if he leaves and takes a bunch of coaches with him, the rumor-mill about our staff will no doubt be rampant :-)

Do you think Speir would even be considered, much less hired for the head coaching at Appy State?

Being realistic, I don't think ANY current SoCon coach would be seriously considered for the head job at App. I am not saying WCU doesn't have some serious challenges, but I guess Speir would be as high on the list as just about all of the SoCon head coaches My comment about the rumor-mill was strictly based on the number of coaches we have with App State ties. And not suggesting anybody would go there (or especially not suggesting anybody would go be the head man).
