All of the SoCon games have been around the same time, so it isn't just Western.

I think that us, Mercer, and the Citadel are the only schools that can put any real numbers in the seats. Furman & Samford both sould be beating us hands down, as well as Chattanooga, but even with decent to good teams, they can't draw.

Keep in mind that a number of teams in the SoCon are small private schools that do not have a large number of alumni or students. Western is one of the larger schools in the SoCon & has a larger alumni base. Therefore, playing these schools do not help us one bit as far as gate receipts are concern. We use to basically have sellout crowds when we played App State in Cullowhee. Most of our largest attendance numbers were with App State. I think of all the schools in the SoCon, WCU was hurt more than any other SoCon School by the departure of App State.

On the start time discussion, that's one that everyone has an opinion on and no two are alike. Really the athletic dept has a "damned if they do or damned if they don't" situation when it comes to times. I've been told that they go with the later times in the early season because of the heat but switch to mid-afternoon to help accommodate travel times. Remember, Charlotte and the Triad are 2+ hours away and Raleigh is 4.5 hours away. Neither of those travel times are very conducive for day trips to Cullowhee, especially if the start time is late in the afternoon. Then again, we get and stay on the winning train and this will be a bit of a mute point. :-)
