The STANDARD against which WCU football seasons can be measured is as follows:
3 wins or less = Mediocre/Unsatisfactory 4 wins = Below Average 5 wins = Average 6 wins = Above Average 7 wins = A season to celebrate 8 wins = Once in a lifetime * 9 wins or more = Not going to happen... unless we can find another coach like Bob Waters.
* From 1932-2018 there has been only one season with more than 7 wins when the head coach was anyone other than Bob Waters. 1949, 8 wins.
IMHO, 86 years equals a pretty good lifetime, especially since neither of my parents lived that long.

The most inspiring thing that could happen prior to this game, is for Speir to resign! He has no reason to resign as there isn't anything out there that is worth leaving for. I'm not sure he would even leave for an App job. Speir needs to make some changes to get the defense back under control With the High Numbers the Offense put up early do you think any of the Coaches on the Offense May be getting looks. I really don’t kniow how all that works.

I doubt it, normally coaches get poached due to multiple seasons of success. Well that and applying for jobs elsewhere.

My response to the question about gaining hope for next year is consistency. With experience these young guys especially on defense should gain that consistency. Let’s look back to how the season progressed. We held Furman to little yardage in the second half, we had ETSU on the ropes several times, were in good position against Wofford. We obviously have the talent to compete just lack the ability to put a whole game together. I am not saying that we will be a 7-8 win team again next year, but I am saying optimistically speaking this should be were our hope rests. My prediction is that we will win 6 to 8 games next year and Coach Speir will get an extension. Folks say that coach has had 4 losing seasons and 3 winning seasons. The first two losing seasons, frankly do not count because he was fixing the dumpster fire that Wagner left him. So realistically and fairly he has had 3 winning seasons and 2 losing seasons. Also, our DC has been on the job exactly 2 seasons because the guy before him was a disaster. Our defense improved during the season and next year they will be better. If we go 6-5 or better, Coach Speir should get a 5 year extension because that will be 4 winning seasons to 2 losing seasons and we have already established that the first 2 seasons do not count against him. GO CATS!!!

Threads seldom stay on topic on this and other forums. To answer your question, I do not think we will beat UNC. They have more scholarships and better funding and play in a tougher conference. Nice to dream that we will win against a Power FBS Conference, but with the year we have had, we will be lucky to avoid a blowout as UNC has no class and will run the score up to make a point. Please see last years score...

I do see your point about them keeping the foot on the gas I just hope they don’t have they option. It would be a good closure to the poor season we have had to be able to have a close type game.

I was at the Orange County Massacre last year ( stayed till the end) and the good news ( if you’re inclined to spin as such) is that Carolina scored on all but one possession, had no turnovers, had numerous quick strike scores , and still hung “only” 65 on us. So I’m confident in keeping them under 70. Yippee.

I want the good stuff you are smoking. If we do not make the playoffs he should not be extended. It is not just about winning seasons it is about SoCon titles and playoffs My response to the question about gaining hope for next year is consistency.
