We know that next year will be a 12 game schedule, and the Cat are playing two FBS teams, NC State & Alabama. Gardner-Webb will be in Cullowhee, with home games against Furman, Samford, Mercer, & ETSU. That's 11 games, so we have room for one more game, which hopefully is a 6th home game on the schedule, against what should be an FCS team, but, may very well be a non-DI game (again hurting our chances of a playoff team, before the season even starts).
Saying all that, and I know it's early, but how many games will the Cats win next year?

Way too early to tell - have to see what happens in the off-season (new coaches, new players, injuries, transfers, etc.). Based on the cycle we have seen in the past 5 years, the trend would be for us to be back to a winning record with lots of skill players back on offense and a defense who got beat up bad this season but seemed to be at least a little better at the end (and who now will have lots of guys back with experience even if they are Sophomores and RS Sophomores).
Around the league, I don't see teams other than Samford losing a ton of their top players - everybody was relatively young or they run schemes were lots of guys play and losing 1 guy doesn't derail them. I expect 2019 to be another year of a ton of parity in the SoCon, and the teams who get to 7+ wins will be the ones who figure out how to win those close games that the Cats simply couldn't in 2018.

I'll say if the HC can match the 2018 season in wins, he'll be overachieving.

With knowing who that 12 opponent will be, I can only see 4 potential wins next year.

Well - 3 years ago, I said the Cats would win the conference in 2019. And I am not backing down now!

Just wondering how long you've been a Catamount football fan? I played 84-87 so 34 years You've certainly got the experience to answer this question then. What is Coach Speir going to do next season that he did not do this season, to go from the cellar to the conference championship in consecutive years? Thanks for your time at Western.
