I think it's time all Catamount fans became more confrontational. Hell, I've waited over 40 years for a conference championship in football, always hoping things would be better the next season. Guess what, it's never gotten better. 7 wins is as good as it's gotten. Everyone that has anything to do with athletics at WCU, from the BOT down to the head coach should be confronted and made to feel uncomfortable. Maybe, when they realize the Cat fans are "sick and tired" of being "sick and tired" of not have competitive athletics, somebody will do something. You need to be screaming that at Allison Shetler not at Randy and Mark. At least if you are going to make a scene do it to the right people. Nope, everyone should be confronted, especially Randy and Mark, with both of their feet held to the fire to put a winner on the field. It's time for the AD to act.

GOLD CAT a Christmas Social is not the time or place. catamountfanatic07 IS CORRECT SCREAM AT SHETLER I think everyone is correct and that we should confront everyone associated with Western especially the administration. It is a cop out and a cover up to say that we are all about academics. If you ask App State, Carolina, ECU, Alabama, etc., they will all tell you they are all about academics and they are but they all have successful athletic programs. The two have nothing to do with the other. So the argument they are using is that if you have good academics, then you can't have good sports. Every school I have mentioned here are perceived be better academically than Western by the general public so that argument is a false flag. Randy is diverting from the real problem, and I can understand that because he is not the sharpest tool in the shed anyway. As Western fans we can expect poor athletics and sub-par academics with the administration claiming that their focus on academics makes us better than other schools. We keep lying to ourselves to make us all feel better.

I was there and that wasn't how he said it. It wasn't handled well for the event setting. I’ve heard she made a little bit of a scene last night When you say She, who are you talking about?

so should i wear Panther gear to the Haywood social? Randy is way over his head, stupid statement. Does he know what he is paid to do?
What I don't understand is every year we are told at the recruiting event that we got what we needed. Where are these players going? Is Cullowhee a place for talent to come and die?

I wasn't there so have no idea exactly what this person did, but some folks are correct that the social was not really the place. On the other hand, maybe it was her best opportunity to let off some steam and voice displeasure at the state of our athletics. Everyone involved ….the admin, the AD and the coaches, needs to hear loud and clear that we love our university but we are sick and tired of poor results year after year with an occasional glimmer of progress. If nothing is ever going to change, then we may as well just get rid of the sports programs.

I was there and the "she" is a mid 70's sorority girl who's somewhat out of touch. Her statements on Facebook were not what Randy said, I was there.

I'm just happy that Catamount fans are speaking up about the sorry, pitiful state of athletics at WCU, no matter what the venue. I don't know what she said at the social, and I don't care what Randy said - the sorry state of athletics should be brought up every time two Catamount fans see each other, and it certainly should be said to the AD, the Chancellor, and the Board of Trustees. People sitting back on their hands all these years is what has resulted in what we have today. We have been in a conference for 40+ years and still have the LOWEST athletic budget in that conference, and an administration (AD + the Chancellor)that are willing to settle for a mediocre athletic program.
