The NC BOG has struck again. Now they are making sure that ECU comes into political alignment with the politics of the BOG. They have fired the ECU Chancellor and are going to appoint a bunch of new BOT members to the ECU Board. It might take 50 years to fix the mess that these mental giants are causing. First they crater our chances to get the best possible Chancellor for Western Carolina and now this. Why would any qualified candidate want to be part of the NC system now that it has fallen so far? It is a sad sad day for ECU and for NC. What a bunch of clowns in the BOG. www.wunc.org/post/ecu-chancellor-did-not-initiate-resignation-university

I don’t think the members on the BOG could be any more ridiculous, but nothing surprises me anymore with the state of NC.
With that said though, I know some ECU people who are not at all upset about this.

Most of the Alumni are pleased with the decision to fire him, as my son, sister, Brother In Law and nephews graduated out there and they are pleased with the firing. The BOT have made some huge mistakes out there also, 2 years ago bought a 2 million $$ house for the Chancellor instead of remodeling the one directly across the street from campus, the whole AD Compher fiasco, the firing on Ruffin McNeal as football coach and replacing with Scottie Montgomery all falls back in the Chancellor and BOT's laps. I'm just thankful we don't have the mess that is in G'Ville. Also a huge athletic budget shortfall and I mean HUGE!!
But I totally agree that the BOG is also a bunch of clowns that have their own agenda!!
GO CATS!!

When a story like this is published, they jump on the bandwagon that it has to be political and it's always the Board's fault. All some of you want to do is criticize the Board, never thinking for an instant, there might be a cause for their actions. To me, it would be enough of a reason to fire a guy that purchases an almost $2 million chancellor's home. Who the hell do these guys that run universities think they are? Royalty? That is certainly not all the problems that have arisen since that chancellor took his thrown in Greenville.

In the case of ECU, it has been abundantly clear that BOG chair Smith tried to push a number of actions at ECU that would have benefited him greatly. Of course it was all in the guise of "good for the university". I think a pretty good argument can be made that the UNC BOG is out of control.

You're right on time, as one of the regular BOG most vocal critics. So then, you're OK with a new $2 million house for his highness, the ECU Chancellor? It's all the UNC BOG's fault, right?

OK I am going to slightly modify this, but I am not going to get in right or wrong, etc this or that. But to address the chancellor's house issue a few below.

I’d like to see a comparison of home prices for other chancellors. I’d bet that is fairly normal. I’ve been in the chancellors house a couple times and it’s no track home that’s for sure.

That is ridiculous that state employees are living like this on the state dime. Just one of the many thousands of reasons tuition continues to skyrocket in state schools. Every chancellor that is still employed in the system that was on board when these homes were purchased, should be shown out the front door. We can't feed our hungry, and house our homeless, but we can purchase homes for university chancellors that cost in the millions?
