I understand from some people that know her that she's interested in the WCU job. She's from Asheville.
Coaching career[edit]
She began her coaching career immediately after graduating from Greensboro as an assistant at Division II Catawba College. She served as an assistant at Catawba for a single year and then became an assistant at Division II Lenoir–Rhyne University. She then served as an assistant for two years at two Division I schools, High Point University and then a year at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.[6][4]
Pfeiffer University[edit]
Macy took on her first head coaching position as the head coach at Pfeiffer University in 2005. In her first year, she took over a team with a record of 8–20 and just four returning players and guided the team to a record of 14–15. In her second year the team improved to 26 –5 overall, and 18–3 in the conference to win the regular season conference as well as the conference tournament.[1] The team was invited to the NCAA Division II postseason tournament where the team competed but lost in the first round. Macy was named the conference coach of the year in 2007. Macy's two-year winning percentage of .667 is the second best among all Pfeiffer coaches and the best among coaches with more than a single year.[8][9]
Francis Marion[edit]
Macy was hired to be the head coach at Francis Marion University in 2007. In our first year, she guided the team to a 21–9 record, finishing first in the Peach Belt Conference and earning an invitation to the NCAA Division II postseason tournament. The team improved in the second year to 27–5 overall, again finishing first in the conference and going to the NCAA tournament where they reached the Sweet 16. In her third and final year at Francis Marion the team again went 27–5, finishing second in the conference and reaching the second round of the postseason NCAA Division II tournament.[10] Macy was named the conference coach of the year in both 2008 and 2009.[11][10] The team finished the season ranked #20 in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 poll.[12]
East Carolina[edit]
In 2010, Macy was hired by Division I East Carolina to head their women's basketball program.[12] Macy's teams recorded the highest grade point averages among all Conference USA women's basketball team in both 2012–13 and 2013-14. In 2014, she received a five-year extension to her contract, which now extends through the 2019–20 season. On October 17, 2018, Macy was forced to resign due to her misunderstanding of practice rules.[13]

A few things concern me. She never had a winning season at ECU and was fired misunderstanding practice rules, whatever that means. I don't think she is a good hire. SHe has only had winning records at Div 2 schools no D 1 schools

Macy's salary at ECU was $250,000
Stephanie McCormick's was $109,620
....you do the math, I don't think WCU can afford Macy unless she's willing to take a 50% pay cut and I say that doubtful.

I'd say her career at EZU was on its way downhill anyway. maybe her best season's are behind her.

We would be lucky to get her, I think. She had a winning record at ECU and she would not be taking a pay cut because she is not working now. Unfortunately, WBB at Western Carolina is a tough objective to achieve based on past performance. With the exception of a few good years under Kelly, there has not been allot of recent success in the past 30 years of Western WBB. I do applaud the folks that are eternal optimist who think we are only one good hire away from women's basketball glory. These same folks propose the same solution to all of Western Carolina's losing sports teams. If only we could hire the right person to coach the team, we would instantly win. The truth is, the problem at Western has seldom been coaching. It has always been lack of funding and poor leadership at the top.

She would be a great hire, especially for WCU in the SoCon. She struggled when ECU went to the American, just like Lazy Lebo did but unlike Lazy Lebo, she actually worked her butt off and would have had a good team this year. There was some misunderstandings on practice rules and she left to avoid any distractions to the basketball program but apparently she violated the amount of practices and times of practices was the main concern. Also, Heather Macy is hot!!!! So she is eye-candy

Not saying that her not being from Asheville is a deal breaker if she wanted to come here but if she took the job to get closer to "home" then this job would not necessarily be it as WCU is about 3 and half to 4 hours away depending how you go.

It is never who we think it is. Many people were named during the search for the men's basketball coach and we ended up hiring the head assistant at Winthrop. Who knows who Randy will hire, but if a coach is going to win in women's basketball at Western, they have to be a special kind of coach. A run of the mill coach will not get it done and I don't think an assistant from a mid-major will get it done either.
