What do the posters on this Board think about the way that Manager Hinch is using Tyler White this season? I think that Tyler’s Contract with the Astros expires at the end of this season. Your thoughts & comments.

I think he has shown he is capable as a big-league hitter, so personally I hope his contract expires and he can explore going to an organization where he seems to fit more into the long-term plans. The last few years it has felt more like the Astros reluctantly have used him as a last option. If he truly does become the Astro’s primary DH for the rest of the year I might change, but he needs to maximize this next opportunity because you only get so many.

Tyler was playing regularly....three out of four games...early, but did not produce. He has left a lot of runners on base with 0 home runs and 0 RBI. He has an ally in Manager A.J. Hinch, but friendship can get you just so far. Tyler needs to get on a roll soon or he might be around much longer. I think he is out of options which means the Astros can't protect him if they send him down to Fresno.

Old Catamount is correct about the RBI's... Tyler's BA is .260. Not too bad, but needs to be 15 points higher.
But the telling statistic is only One RBI so far this year. Leaving too many runners on base.
OC is also correct about A J Hinch really liking Tyler (scraggly beard and all).
But Hinch has stated that he is currently using the DH position to give different position players a "day off" from defense. (I read an article about that on the Net.)
Using a four OF rotation using Tony Kemp to play OF instead of Josh Reddick, George Springer or Michael Brantley and the one out moving to DH for that game. Also, he might give Altuve a "day off" on defense by using Tony Kemp at 2B and let Jose DH. Or giving Bregman a "day off" by shifting Guerriel over to 3B and put Tyler on 1B. He has a lot of depth and lots of options.
But Tyler needs to start driving in runs in such a way that Hinch can't keep him out of the lineup.
BTW, AAA for Houston is now at Round Rock; no longer Fresno.

Tuesday night vs. Detroit, Tyler was 0-for 5 with 3 K's.
Not good...

Tuesday night vs. Detroit, Tyler was 0-for 5 with 3 K's. Not good... Tyler White needs to be hitting on a regular basis & not spot playing to be an effective hitter. The best thing that could help Tyler is for him to be sent back to AAA & get the hell out of Houston. I think his contract with Houston expires at the end of this season. Tyler is having a hard time getting his timing on the ball. His role in Houston reminds me of how Andrew Bullock has been handled by Coach Mo over the past few years. Andrew is another player that has to be in the starting lineup on a daily basis. Coach Mo has used him in a spot type position & reduced his effectiveness. I personally think Houston is purposely coaching Tyler down by only DHing him against left handed pitching.

i think he'll be sent back to AAA soon as well. he's in a pretty bad slump right now, and there are too many other big bats around him that will be put to use. i hope for the best for him, but could see him on a different team once his contract is up

Tyler is out of options to go back to the minors, according to a report I read on the Internet. I'm not sure how all that works, but somehow, I think if they send him back to the minors another ML team can grab him and sign him.

T-White played 1B tonight vs. Boston in Beantown. Good showing...
2 for 5 with 2 RBI's. No strikeouts.
