I guess the AD is having problems finding someone willing to takeover what is certainly the worst women's basketball program in the SoCon, and maybe the worst program in D1 athletics.
Our AD let this happen, why does anyone think he can make a hire to fix this?

Our AD let this happen, why does anyone think he can make a hire to fix this? I don't have any confidence that this will be fixed with a new coach or by the AD. We do not have any recent success. (Last 30 years except when Kelly was here) Before and after Kelly, it has been fire and hire a new head coach every 5 years. We just suck at Women's Basketball and it is all because of funding. It can't be that every coach we have hired for the past 30 years has been a bad coach except for Kelly. Odds are that if we do not change the systemic funding problem that our woes will continue.

Beth Dunkenberger was the head coach prior to Kelli Harper. She turned the women's program around and into a top SoCon team. Unfortunately, she, like Kelli left for greener pastures after a few seasons. So, for about 8-9 seasons there, WCU women's basketball was consistently a top SoCon contender.
Now can we find another rising star? Who knows. Middleton looked like she might keep the ball rolling but alas that didn't happen. McCormick was a gamble with her job hopping. But she had ties to WCU and wanted to be in Cullowhee which was somehow a plus that overrode that job hopping.
That all said, one must wonder why it's taken nearly a month so far to find a coach.

Our last game was March 7th. There seems to be a problem with our leadership. It should not take two months to find a coach. I do hope that the new chancellor demands better efforts from our athletic department. I know that we have seen some poor results in the past but have we ever been this bad overall? I don’t want to hear the money argument...our coaches have enough money to be better than we are right now. I continue to give. It’s getting harder and harder to do so.

So far, four different people have been offered the job. And so far all four have turned it down. Some of those names have been mentioned on this board, some haven’t. After the latest round of rejections, the process started all over.

After the latest round of rejections, the process started all over. If you don't have the commitment to fund the athletic program, this is what happens. You end up with a individual sports teams no one wants to coach, would you blame anyone for turning down the women's WCU basketball program? Why not just end women's basketball? Women's lacrosse, women's beach volleyball, or women's gymnastics would fill the bill nicely, and I'm sure we could find a coach.

I hear we have a coach. Haven’t confirmed yet with a second source. Won’t have to change color of wardrobe much though.

Is the new coach male or female, and in their present position, are they a head coach or an assistant, and is their present school a D1 or D2 school, or NAIA?
GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
