It seems to be a common practice for schools to play women's basketball and volleyball in smaller arenas on the college campuses that have them. I wonder if the powers that be in Cullowhee (athletics & administration) have ever considered a mini re-model of historic Reid Gym to host WCU's women's basketball and volleyball?
It would make a more intimate arena and would fit those two programs much better than Ramsey.

I believe doing that would require adding the bleachers back.

It’s a nice idea for nostalgia purposes, but a return to the energy and atmosphere of a Reid game would just further damage the cause of getting kids fired up about going to “Tarp City” aka RAC.

I believe doing that would require adding the bleachers back. Those that never had the opportunity to see games in Reid Gym, really missed something special. You had to come early, or you didn't get in, the place would be packed. The retractable type of bleachers that were in the gym in the old days would take up the least space and allow the facility to continue to be used as it is now. It would also be great to play a men's game or two yearly in Reid. I don't think it would take a great deal of money to bring the gym back to playing standard. The old scoreboard from Ramsey could be moved to Reid.

So true, I remember sitting in the top row and pounding those metal team name signs (with both fists ) while visitors shot free throws during a tight game.

My fraternity brothers would all sit in the first two rows behind the basket nearest the entrance. On more than one occasion we were highly successful in getting under the skin of an opponent. Marshall's coach wasn't too keen on the students sitting there. If Wofford's coach hates coming and playing in the Ramsey Center, he'd loath Reid 100 times more. LOL!

I have a slightly different take. I too saw many games in Reid Gym and The atmosphere in Reid gave us a definite home court advantage. It might make sense for the women’s team to play a few games in Reid but I think the men’s team needs to play in the RAC and raise the level of play so that we win 20 plus games a year and consistently win conference titles. The problem with the atmosphere is not the building. The problem has been the product on the floor for the pas 30 plus years. Win often and consistently and RAC will fill up. I promise.

Not only seating, but scoreboard, sound system and lots of other stuff to make it playable. Probably talking about $200,000 to $300,000 to bring Reid back up to minimum standards. Nice thought, but not practical.

Nice thought, but not practical. It would still be cheaper that building that addition to Ramsey where the old ice ring was, and Reid could them host all women's basketball and volleyball. As was suggested, the scoreboard from Ramsey could be moved to Reid, which would lower the overall costs. It would be a great place for basketball and volleyball. Just install enough bleachers for a couple thousand or less. from the master plan
