Western Carolina head volleyball coach Karen Glover today announced the addition of six student-athletes for the 2020 volleyball season. Among the incoming players, three hail from Georgia and the same club with one apiece from North Carolina, Ohio, and Ontario, Canada.
Erin Carpenter – Setter – Chamblee Charter HS, Chamblee, Ga. / A5 Volleyball Club
Carpenter arrives in Cullowhee after playing at Chamblee Charter High School under the direction of head coach Lorri Reynolds. She concluded her career with over 1,000 assists and set the Chamblee Charter single-season record for assists in the program. The team MVP for the Bulldogs during her junior and senior seasons, Carpenter was a member of three region championship teams along with a pair of GHSA 5A Elite Eight qualifying teams. She plays club volleyball for A5 Volleyball Club. Carpenter comes from an athletic family as her mother ran track at Illinois and her father played basketball at New Hampshire before playing professionally in Australia.
Destinee Dorsey – Libero – Carrboro HS, Carrboro, N.C. / NC Academy
Originally from Mobile, Ala., Dorsey played at Carrboro High School in North Carolina for head coach Steve Scanga. The program's all-time career digs leader, Dorsey was a member of the NCHSHAA 2-A state champions as both a freshman and sophomore. She earned a spot on the All-Mid State Conference in each of her four seasons and claimed NCVBCA All-Region and All-State accolades as a junior. During her senior year, Dorsey was named to the AVCA All-Region team. Dorsey plays club volleyball for NC Academy.
Julia Gardon – Outside Hitter – West Chester, Ohio, Bishop Fenwick HS / Cincinnati Volleyball Academy
Gardon was a four-year letterwinner at Bishop Fenwick High School under the direction of head coach Tyler Conley. A four-year All-Greater Catholic League player, Gardon earned three All-District honors and two All-State accolades during her prep career. Gardon surpassed the 1,000 career kills milestone and concluded her high school career with a state title. Playing club volleyball for Cincinnati Volleyball Academy, Gardon was named to the All-Tournament team at AAU nationals in 2017.
Eden Punch – Middle Blocker – Burlington, Ontario – Dr. Frank Hayden Secondary School / Halton Regional Volleyball Club
Punch joins the Catamount family from Haden Secondary School and head coach Mitchell Kleer. A two-time HSSAA Player of the Year, Punch is in the midst of her senior season. While playing for Halton Regional Volleyball Club, Punch has been a member of three Ontario provincial championship teams, two Canadian national championship teams, and has won 41 total medals including 22 gold medals at tournaments over the course of five years.
Ali Schreiber – Outside Hitter – Norcross, Ga. - Greater Atlanta Christian School / A5 Volleyball Club
Schreiber was a three-year letterwinner at Greater Atlanta Christian School under head coach Rachel Vanderpol. During her career, Schreiber recorded 1,019 career kills and was a three-time All-Gwinnett County team member as well as a two-time All-Area first team performer. Schreiber plays club volleyball for A5 Volleyball Club and was named to the 2018 16 and under USAV Nationals All-Tournament team.
Livi Weidmann – Right Side – Roswell, Ga. – Centennial HS / A5 Volleyball Club
Weidmann heads to Cullowhee following a scholastic career at Centennial High School playing for head coach Ada Franklin. As a member of the Knights, Weidmann recorded over 1,000 career kills and was a two-time GVCA 6-A All-Area First Team member. Additionally, Weidmann received the Centennial High Excalibur Award, honoring students who display outstanding leadership, loyalty, strength of character and integrity. While playing club volleyball for A5 Volleyball Club, Weidmann was a member of the bronze medal-winning squad at the 2018 AAU nationals.
