 The #1 Buccaneers travel to Cullowhee to face the #2 Catamounts in the SoCon Game of the Week that will be broadcast by the Nexstar stations, as well as, on ESPN+. The Bucs are ranked #6 in the Mid-Major Top 25, while the Cats are receiving votes. Game #17 - ETSU Bucs

Furman's 2019-20 record: 16-3 overall, 5-1 SoCon, 5-3 away games The Bucs and Cats both have one loss in conference play, and that loss is to the same team, Furman. Western is coming off a road loss to Furman, while the Bucs have a road loss against the Paladins earlier in January. In their first five SoCon games of 2020, ETSU’s defense has been stifling. The Bucs are holding opponents to 56.2 points per game, while forcing 16.3 turnovers and limiting them to a 30.7 shooting clip from three (23-75). On the flip side, ETSU is averaging over 81 points and shooting at nearly the 50 percent clip in its first 14 games – has been held to 57.5 points, while shooting 38 percent from the field and 23 percent from beyond the arc (19-84).  |

Based on their roster, we do not match up well at any of the 5 positions. They have size & great depth. They are the best team in the SoCon at this point in time. WCU could change that tonight. |

That will make it sweeter when we send them back across to Johnson City with a loss. They lost to Furman just like we did. I don’t think we should be afraid of them. They can be beaten and we have the team that can beat them. |

This is a huge game. A battle for first place at home on a Saturday night against the best team in the conference. A chance to show whether or not we are contenders or pretenders.

They can be beaten and we have the team that can beat them. Hopefully we can beat them. I lived in Johnson City for 23 years & a victory over the Bucs would be sweet. I’m just concerned about their 6’5” guards & their two 7 footers. I also think their forwards are in the 6’7” range. I can understand how Furman beat them if the game was played at Furman. The Refs were a big factor at the WCU vrs Furman Game. If the Refs continue to be an issue at Furman, it will be hard for any Conference Team to win at Furman. |
