I agree. With the financial hit that athletics is going to take, we might have to start playing football on the soccer field...if there is a 2020 football season. Those who gave to the turf replacement fund raiser are not going to be happy. Just think about how much less money Alex Gary will have to work with next year with the loss of NCAA revenue sharing funds, less student fees due to a decrease in enrollment (a significant number of potential students will not be able to afford higher education), significant loss in Catamount Club giving, less money the administration with have to hand out, significant decrease in advertising/corporate sales revenue and who knows what else if the pandemic continues into late summer or football season. Plus, the North Carolina General Assembly still does not have a budget for the current year and will probably not have a budget until after January when a new crew moves into their seats in Raleigh. Hopefully, the current crisis will end by early summer. Regardless, the best case scenario does not project a pretty picture for Catamounts Athletics.

We have no idea what kind of financial hit WCU will take. We'll have to wait and see what happens through this mess. Prayers for our country and all countries affected by COVID-19.

There is an interesting feature in THE ASHEVILLE CITIZEN this morning labeled "Is The Party Over?" talking about the financial crisis NCAA schools could be facing and quotes Hunter Yurachek, former WCU Associate AD and now AD at Arkansas. It is interesting reading.

The field is not unplayable. Eventually turf gets compacted and becomes hard. Asheville HS let their's go too long and it was awful. Western's turf is far from that.
Haywood Co. formally announced they would be deferring the installation of Tuscola & Pisgah til 2021. The money had been banked but they had decided to squeeze another season out of it this school year and replace this summer. That is all out the window now.

It's the Citadel.
The visitor's stands were torn down in 2018, they were condemned by the city.
The Citadel had plans to replace the visitor's side in 2019, but didn't have the funds. They have 1k temporary seats on the visitor's side now.

Unless the restrictions change dramatically in the next two months, I don't think we will see a reopening of WCU and a 2020 college football season. Which means a dramatic impact on WCU's athletics budget and NO new turf or any other improvements to our athletics facilities for quite some time. in addition, there could be a lot of low income housing available in Cullowhee as hundreds of those new off campus bedrooms are going to be vacant. It is a scary scenario to think about so...I'm going to think about a return to partial normalcy by July and college football by September. What do y'all think?
