The Western Carolina indoor track & field teams compete for Southern Conference titles this weekend as the Catamounts travel to Lexington, Va. for the 2020 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship at the VMI Corps Physical Training Center. The Catamount men have won six straight titles while the women's team has finished in second place for the past three seasons. "We're excited for the start of the indoor championships this Saturday," said head coach Jesse Norman. "This is what our team trains and focuses on throughout the winter season. I feel that we're in a good position to defend the men's title and move up on the women's side." catamountsports.com/news/2020/2/28/track-catamounts-to-compete-for-southern-conference-indoor-titles.aspx

Is the T&F program now on the way down? Samford swept the championship, the women came in about 5th place and the men came in second, but 30 points down. What's up?

With the down turn in baseball, and now T&F seemingly unable to keep up with Samford, WCU athletics has little to hang their hat on.
I think this is the first time in a long time that the Catamounts didn't win a men's or women's title in the SoCon championships. It looks like the women's program has really dropped off the map.

It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure out what is happening to our track & field program. Take a trip around the SoCon and check out the facilities at places like Samford, VMI, Wofford and other members. Our lack of facilities is starting to have a significant negative impact as it has in football, baseball and golf. You need to check out our track and field locker room and training room as well as coaches offices in the old Camp Lab Gym. Pitiful. The Athletics Master Plan shows a new locker room/training room/coaches office on the scoreboard end of the current track. How long that building to become a reality is anyone's guess. Until then, our track and field programs will struggle to be a championship contender.

There’s a guy who won newcomer of the year last year that did not compete. Once they get everyone back, they will be back on the winning end.

That's what they said about baseball a couple years ago. Now, everyone wants Moranda fired. They are fine. A star runner/jumper did not compete for other reasons, but they probably would have won if he competed. The women just had a bad day. I’ve been on the track team, they will be just fine.

Come on, that one guy would not have made up 30 points. 30 points is how much the men lost by, and you can't say the women just "had a bad day" when they finished in 5th place. Man, you got me laughing about your purple glasses you are wearing to look at the T&F teams.

That same guy I’m talking about had 28.5 points last year, I’m telling you he had a great chance at going to nationals as a freshman last year, but he got injured.
