SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Due to the ongoing threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Southern Conference, at the recommendation of the league's Council of Presidents and directors of athletics, will suspend all athletic competition through March 30, Commissioner Jim Schaus announced Thursday.
"Our membership feels that it is imperative to protect the health and welfare of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans by suspending athletic competition due to this very serious virus," Schaus said.

Will kids get an extra year of eligibility? If so will WCU be willing to pay for it? I couldnt imagine being a senior on the baseball or softball team. Basketball they already know they are done but do they get another year if all the big schools get an extra year? Then id be pumped if i was a senior and could make my schedule work
Kids playing for the draft in MLB are getting screwed also. We dont have anyone that it would effect that much money wise but you take a Hancock from UGA and it could cost him maybe up to $6m Lots of issues to go around on this one

with all the bad press the NCAA gets, this is a great opportunity for them to step up to the plate and allow winter and spring sport student athletes to have an extra year for competition. i would also suggest that the NCAA cover the expenses for the additional year, not rely on the individual institutions to cover this cost.
