This is good and bad. With rosters limited to 35 kids what are schools going to do when they bring in 20+ kids next year? Even the big schools are going to struggle with this. They will have to increase roster sizes to start with then address the scholarship issue. If i was coach id start picking off some seniors from bigger schools. They arent changing the graduate transfer rule so you would think you could get some kids. Or hell if im a larger school id be picking off the studs at smaller schools. Also heard that football is getting new facilities? That is a %$#@*&^ JOKE. d1baseball.com/stories/ncaa-clear-in-wanting-relief-for-spring-athletes/

If i was at WCU id start right now going over rosters of bigger schools. Try to get some seniors who may not have gotten enough ABs or innings or maybe gets pushed out.

This would include basketball players also based on what I have read. I know some coaches want this but I will be surprised if this happens. What about a highly recruited freshman that chooses a school because he think he will get playing time and now he is behind a senior.

Basketball has it made in the case of teams like WCU they finished their season already. So a senior gets two senior seasons on a team like Western. But heck if your gonna give extra year you have to give it to everyone. In basketball you dont get many seniors. These highly touted freshman are going to beat them out probably anyway. The senior gets an extra full year so shouldnt complain about jack where as baseball finished only 4 weeks of a season. It sucks for kid like Bigbie who had a chance to be drafted but how do you evaluate him now? Im not spending high pick on him after watching the first four weeks. So it could cost him money but WCU could benefit. Also sucks for Walter who came back for another year to improve his draft position. While it was right move now what happens? He is gonna be another year older which will hurt his draft next year if comes back again and where do you draft him this year??

Nothing personal against Football but just how about upgrading who needs it more. I know good football equals more money for all other teams but its nearly impossible to win at WCU. Baseball facilities are so far out of date it is not funny it is embarrassing

As in Western Carolina football? I heard from one of my WCU buddies that they were getting new facilities but not sure what that means i just know that it is BS if they get any type additions and i mean any. Nothing personal against Football but just how about upgrading who needs it more. I know good football equals more money for all other teams but its nearly impossible to win at WCU. Baseball facilities are so far out of date it is not funny it is embarrassing I like baseball, but it is not a revenue sport. I think baseball should be high up the list but our football facilities are also very behind for a school our size. Ask yourself, when we get to 15K to 20K students will we still be FCS getting beaten by GW and North Greenville. The answer is yes we will. Also if you spend any money on a men’s sport, per tile IX you have to spend the same amount on women’s sports. So let’s say you spend $5 million on baseball then you have to spend 5 million on softball and or women’s tennis. What does any of that do to raise our profile in the college sports world? Absolutely nothing. I like college baseball but in my opinion, it is down the list. There is hope for your point of view though. This is Western Carolina where we make the wrong decision all the time. As an example, we have a great track team and last time we upgraded facilities most of the money was spent on track but how much recognition does track bring to a school. How many people attend track events. This time around more track facilities upgrades are on the list. If we had about $140 million we could do it all but we do not. We will have to go by the master plan which is in my opinion misguided.
