Let's all be nice to each other, after all, we are all Catamount fans here. I know the virus and lockdowns have us all under pressure, but we can still be thoughtful of other posters.

All the negative energy is not going to help WCU win or recruit -- and that is the goal -- to win! Just my 2 cents. Just my 2 cents as well. Coach Speir has a 32-60 record (.348) over eight seasons. He started a brand new 5 year contract extension July 1, 2020. That's the negative energy in Catamount football, and that's just facts. If you think presenting facts is mean spirited, so be it.

IMHO, showing some respect for each other, for the coaches and the football program would be good too. There is a huge difference between honest discussion (even critical discussion) and mean spirited bashing and slamming. All the negative energy is not going to help WCU win or recruit -- and that is the goal -- to win! Just my 2 cents. We have a lot of experts on this board who have never coached a day of football in their lives including me. I have been negative many times because I am frustrated with how things have gone. Many of the “experts” are sure they are correct but the truth is none of us know for sure what is going to happen. As a Catamount fan you have to pull for the coach we have or you are part of the problem or you don’t really want Western to be successful. I am as guilty as anyone and that does not fix anything. I think lots of people enjoy being smug and saying I told you so. If it is not turned around soon, it is just a very sad situation for our school. There is nothing to be happy about with that and there is nothing to gloat about if we have to start all over with an unknown coach.

Where did you hear that he got a contract extension this year? Are you sure?

This is not new news. "A former assistant coach at WCU in the early to mid-1990s, Speir was hired as Western Carolina’s 13th head football coach all-time in December of 2011. He was originally signed to a four-and-a-half-year deal, with the first extension keeping him under contract in Cullowhee through June of 2020. With the current extension, Speir will be under contract through the summer of 2025." www.nmnathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12100&ATCLID=211790982
