The Catamounts have one of the better players in the conference with Mason Faulker. In his first season with Western Carolina, Faulkner had 17.9 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 5.9 APG on a team that won 19 games. While Faulkner has tremendous numbers, his efficiency was lackluster shooting just 40% from-the-field, 31% from three. That’s something you’d like to see improve this season from a guy with Faulkner’s talent. Matt Halvorsen does one thing, and he does it well. Halvorsen had 9.5 PPG while shooting 40% from three last season. Xavier Cork is a player that could take a massive jump this season. Cork as a freshman, wasn’t given a significant role but in his chances, he proved to be a very efficient scorer shooting 69%. One of the underlying questions that’ll be huge for the Catamounts is if Presbyterian transfer, Cory Hightower can get a waiver. Hightower for the Blue Hose last season was fantastic and opted to transfer following the season. As it sits currently he would be sitting out this season, but the way things have gone in terms of players getting waivers you’d like to think he has a fair shot. It all depends on if Presbyterian signs-off on the waiver or not. Mark Prosser has really turned things around for WCU.
