(Not sure which team is on lockdown) Not a great day for the SoCon. The tip off of conference action has been postponed, Wofford at South Carolina was canceled and the Spartans picked up their 3rd loss of the season. Coppin State was a big underdog that pulled off the home upset, 85-80 for their first win of the season after 4 losses. I think any talk of a SoCon championship for the Spartans can now be put to bed.

Right now, we have 6 games scheduled for Saturday, but with the way games are being canceled and postponed, we won't know how many will be played until game time. The SoCon certainly has the opportunity to shine on Saturday with game against South Florida, NC A&T, UAB, and Georgia. Georgia is the big prize, can the Samford Bulldogs win?

However, it could have easily been 6-0. Samford, Wofford, and ETSU all lost very close games to DI opponents. Wofford lost by two to South Florida, ETSU lost by 4 to UAB, and Samford lost by 4 to Georgia, after leading most of the night, until the last couple of minutes. Western beat NC A&T in overtime, while Furman and Chattanooga cruised by non-DI opponents. Probably the biggest news in SoCon basketball came out early today as Chattanooga senior guard David Jean-Baptiste announced on Twitter he was entering the transfer portal. Jean-Baptiste is the Mocs leading scorer, averaging 18 points per game.

Three games on the schedule today, all DI opponents. In state, Big South opponent Hampton comes to Lexington to play the Keydets, while another Virginia team, Norfolk State of the MEAC travels to the Greensboro Coliseum to face the Spartans. Rounding out the day, former SoCon member Georgia Southern hosts in-state rival Mercer in the Hanner Fieldhouse in Macon, Ga., in what should be the primer game of the day.
Should be all good games today, and hopefully, three SoCon wins.
1:00 PM ET - Watch on ESPN+ Hampton (1-1) at VMI (3-2) Cameron Hall - Lexington, VA - my pick, VMI by 6
2:00 PM ET - Watch on ESPN+ Norfolk State (3-1) at UNCG (1-3) Greensboro Coliseum - Greensboro, NC -my pick, UNCG by 9
6:00 PM ET - Watch on ESPN+ Mercer (5-0) at Georgia Southern (3-1) W. S. Hanner Fieldhouse - Statesboro, GA -my pick, Mercer by 5

Just as I predicted, the Mercer/GSU game was the thriller, with the Bears winning in 'gnatville, with .6 of a second on the clock. Overall, the SoCon picked up three DI wins, beating the Big South, Sun Belt and MEAC. VMI and UNCG had little trouble with their opponent, and the Spartans snapped a 3 game losing streak.
