It looks like the portal has slowed down for basketball..... When is the cutoff date for entering the portal for the 2021-2022 basketball season. They have to have a cutoff. The NCAA can’t allow transfers up until the season starts. I would think end of July at the latest. Can’t have kids transferring mid-semester. |

I get that part but now that the deadline to enter the portal has past, there has to be a drop dead date for the last day a player can accept an offer and enroll in school. Once class starts in mid-August, you can’t enroll in school. I mean a basketball or football transfer cannot start school on September 1st or October 1st. They would have to make up all that school work or they would flunk. Has to be like first of August or mid-August at the latest for sure that they have to enroll in school. I guess if they do not find a home by then, they have to pay their own way. |

I doubt they have a day that says you can’t accept a scholarship, but agree there has to be a date regarding eligibility for any Fall games. So football players would lose a season and basketball players would lose 1/2 a season if they get a scholarship after say a college’s drop/add period. Of course everybody gained an extra year of eligibility due to COVID and they don’t have to sit out at all, so I would imagine we still see kids in the portal picking up offers where eligibility starts in the Spring.
And sadly, there will be lots of kids who entered the portal, lost the scholarship they had, and won’t be enrolled in a school at all who will be desperate to sign something and start in the Spring.

What is also sad is that friends and family told many of these players that the grass was greener on the other side of the fence and sometimes that just isn't true.......
