The Series: The Cats own a 10-6 overall record overall against the 49ers, having won the last 6 games in the series. The two teams last met in the 2010 season in Cullowhee.

After two series sweeps against Morehead State & William and Mary, the 49er dropped a single mid-week game to SoCon foe, UNCG on Tuesday in Greensboro. Entering Tuesday's game at UNCG, the 49ers are currently ranked inside the nation's top-10 for several categories including the #1 spot in home runs per game at three. Total home runs (18) is second-best in the country as is slugging percentage (.662) while hits allowed per nine (3.67) is third, scoring (10.8 runs/game) is fourth and batting average (.347) is sixth. All of those categories lead Conference USA. On the individual side, notable numbers include Craig Keuchel, Austin Knight and David McCabe all tied for fifth in the country with four homers (all lead C-USA), Knight is fifth in RBI with 14, slugging at 1.174 and sixth in total bases (27).

I was disappointed yesterday when our best starter (Zebby Matthews) got beat up in the 1st inning. Gave up two long balls + 2 errors were made behind him. We were in a 4-0 hole after the 1st inning and spent the rest of the day trying to crawl out of it. We left 2 or more runners on base in 7 of the 9 innings. Unbelievable !!! Left bases loaded twice. Got beat 7-4.

Got a fine starting pitching performance from a Freshman (Gavin Mortenson) today in Game 2. 5.2 innings; 4 hits allowed; 1 run.

. Charlotte has a very potent offense that has been lighting up the scoreboard.

Need a solid pitching performance tomorrow to take the series and even up the past two weekends at 3-3.
