Top of the 9th - WCU 21, St. John's 3 Trevor Jones hit a solo homer as the Catswithbats match WCU football with 21 on the scoreboard on Saturday; Jack Snyder on the mound to try and close out game two and clinch the series. Jerry, Trevor might just be the DH that Coach has been looking for in the starting lineup. Also, I liked the starting lineup in the infield today. Right now Coach Mo needs a right fielder that can hit. I think another thing that I have noticed has been the tremendous drop in errors as compared to the previous seasons. When Luke is not catching, he should be used as the DH. Just believe that the first baseman used today has an edge defensively over Luke. Luke is a great catcher & has turned into a great hitter this Spring. The pitching has been a great surprise to me so far. Most of the pitchers on this team seems to have a better command of their pitches than previous seasons. The hitting has really improved from the previous seasons & it appears that the hire of the former Furman Assistant Coach seems to be working out great. I also believe the Pitching Coach is doing a better job of calling pitches & teaching the young pitchers how to throw off speed pitches. Just hope all the above info holds true for the Conference Schedule.

Not sure why #5 is not at 3rd base today. The Freshman playing 3rd base is an excellent fielder but he has trouble hitting. I like the choice for right field. He is a good looking young outfielder & can hit. Coach Mo is finding the best players for each position on this team. He has signed some good looking young players in this Freshman Recruiting Class. I also like that Luke is the DH instead of playing first base. If you are going to give him the day off, DHing him is the best thing.

I think Coach should put in a new pitcher starting the next inning. He has used very few pitchers in this series with SJU. Hope Coach does not put the Cats in a hole by leaving his starting pitcher in the game too long and put an L on the team.

First game that Trevor Jones has participated in. Wonder why? He came to the plate twice, got two hits and drove in 3 runs.

Jim... agree that two things are making a huge difference this year.... (1) fewer errors and (2) fewer walks and HBP's.
Errors give extra outs. Free passes give extra AB's. Both are hard to overcome and outstanding pitching is the only way to overcome them. In previous years, we have not had outstanding pitching.
Also agree that the starting pitching on weekends has been surprisingly good so far. (Especially the FR in the middle game.) Hope we can use mid-week games to prove out more pitchers.
