After the postponement of the Mercer series, the Catamounts will now open the conference portion of the 2021 schedule against The Citadel in Cullowhee.

The Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the preseason polls by both the head coaches and media and second baseman Tyler Corbitt was selected as a Preseason All-Southern Conference Second Team selection. The Citadel will play at South Carolina on Wednesday prior to the trip to Cullowhee.
The Bulldogs have been in a slump since 2013 and have gone without either a winning overall record or winning conference record since the 2013 season, when they were 35-25 overall and 18-12 in the SoCon. The Bulldogs will experience their first road series of the season at Western Carolina. The Citadel has only played 2 midweek games away from Riley Park.
