Spencer, Davis, Helms, Rogers, those guys had a good sense of their value before they left. It’s the really young guys that are taking a huge risk. Some of them are making a bad choice, for sure

I see two sides to this entire transfer portal.
1-This is simply the concept of a free market taking shape in the arena of college sports. Similar to professional trades in the labor market most of us participate in now. We are not necessarily tied to our company or jobs and are free to move on to another employer as we see fit. We can make a career choice that we determine is in our best long-term (and sometimes short-term) interest. Either way, we are "free to move about". This can be a good thing overall for colleges and universities, and for the student athlete. Ideally, better "fits" are chosen by both sides. 2-The other side of this transfer portal lends itself to fickle minded student athletes that decide too quickly the "grass is greener" somewhere else. Therefore, they will always have some form of escape clause in the back of their minds when a practice doesn't go their way or when they don't get the playing time they think they should in a game. Rather than buckling down and working with their coaches and fellow teammates on getting better at their defined role, they do the bare minimum it takes to stay on the program until they can seek out another opportunity elsewhere. The 2nd line talent does not improve, back ups are not 100% ready to be the "next man up" and the team suffers. Then, each year teams and staffs are faced with re-loading and re-training new teammates at a higher influx than the normal graduating and turnover rates of years past.
I think the situation we have here encompasses both the negatives and positives of the aforementioned above. My 2 cents.

It’ll be up to the coaches to create an atmosphere and culture the players want to be a part of and stay a part of. Quite a challenge

This is a big loss. Stribling’s older brother was a CB for Michigan. He comes from a very athletic family. He is an example of the previous staff not recognizing talent and playing favorites with smaller receivers. It is a shame.

This just opens the roster to a player who wants to play for Coach Bell and crew. If others want to transfer, the sooner the better! Remember our non-winning ex-coaches recruited the players that are leaving. I think I will trust Bell's recruits and our current players who want to play for him.

We shouldn't fault any kid for making a decision they think is best for them, and we should concentrate a lot more on who we have and who we are trying to get versus who we lost. Just my opinion - I am not mad at any of them and in no way do I say "good riddance". Every school has kids leave for dozens of reasons, and it is typically escalated with a coaching change.
And I honestly don't think this is so much kids vs the new staff, and expect this is a lot more about some of these guys just wanting a change of scenery. They were recruited by the previous staff, have most likely not had a whole lot of fun with how the team has struggled during their time in Cullowhee, and want to go somewhere else probably just to - as simple as it sounds - be somewhere else. I don't take it personal, and don't expect it is some clash with the kids and coaches. I truly wish them all well and hope they find what they are looking for, and I hope our new staff fills those vacancies with players they are happy with.

All of us at one point or another have left a job or place we live for better opportunities. I don’t fault these kids one bit. It sucks to see them leave, but at the end of the day they need to do what’s best for them.
