I think Mercer will prove themselves worthy of a playoff bid, but there are a lot of games between the SoCon teams currently towards the top of the standings. If ETSU and Mercer split some games they have left with teams like UTC, VMI, Furman, etc. then we will be looking at only 1 team getting in again. For the SoCon's sake, because ETSU, VMI, and Mercer all still have to play each other I am not sure we can even hope to get 3 teams in. Best-case is probably 2 teams (either a tie of 1-loss teams in conference or an undefeated team along with a 1-loss conference team). Just seems to be what the outside world thinks about the SoCon right now, as in year's past if there was an opportunity for 4 teams with 8+ wins we would be getting 3 or 4 in. Still lots of important SoCon games to go.
I do find it odd that Villanova is behind JMU - a team they just beat on the road. I get it was a close game and the teams obviously should be close to one another in the polls, but why would Villanova be lower???
