SoCon Basketball for Thursday, December 2, 2021
But First - Wednesday's recap: This was not a good night for the SoCon, only two wins out of 5 games. Only Western Carolina and Mercer collected wins on this disappointing night.
-Warren Wilson 47 - Western Carolina 102
Western Carolina had a season-best six players finish in double figures and just missed a pair of school records as the Catamounts cruised to a 102-47 victory over Warren Wilson on Wednesday evening in no conference action on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center. WCU improves to 4-4 overall, while the contest was considered an exhibition for Warren Wilson.
-The Citadel 58 - UNC Asheville 65
The Citadel could not overcome a cold shooting night in falling, 65-58, at UNC Asheville Wednesday night inside the Kimmel Arena. With just over nine-and-a-half minutes to play, Asheville went on a 9-0 run to open a 10-point advantage. The Citadel battled back and pulled within three on a pair of Roche free throws, but the Bulldogs were unable to get any closer.
-Richmond 73 - Wofford 64
The Wofford men's basketball team used an explosive 23-9 second-half run that brought the game within one possession with 2:25 left to play on Wednesday evening, though, the Richmond Spiders (4-4) would manage to hold off the Terriers in front of a raucous crowd at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium, 73-64.
-Mercer 73 - Kennesaw State 71
The third season of the Greg Gary era earns its first road win of the 2021-2022 season over Kennesaw State, 73-71, while four Bears scored in double digits.
-ETSU 56 - UAB 70
The ETSU men’s basketball team saw its five-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night as the Buccaneers fell 70-56 to preseason Conference USA favorite UAB inside Bartow Arena. Ledarrius Brewer (Meridian, Miss.) collected his fourth career double-double after leading ETSU with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Mohab Yasser (Giza, Egypt) provided the Blue and Gold with eight points and six rebounds (five offensive) in 23 minutes off the bench.
