Am I the only one that thinks it is strange that Sanders retires less than a week before early signing day allowing his recruits to look elsewhere and allowing current players to hit the portal so they can be picked up by other schools. The timing could not be worse for ETSU. That running back that gashed us is in the portal now. Why did he not wait until mid-Feb to retire after the recruiting class was in? There might be more to this than we know. Just saying that the timing is odd. Maybe we can poach some players or recruits.

The RB who gashed us (All-American Quay Holmes) was already leaving - he is hoping to be drafted, but even if he does enter the portal I believe he will be a grad transfer and will get FBS offers. So I don’t think his moving on from ETSU was impacted by this. But it does appear they have several other names jumping into the portal.

If you will recall, he was suspended by ETSU back in 2018. Yes - interesting indeed. Wondering if there is a greater motive - improving the time to find another coach. Is there a coach in the wings with other offers? What's fair to the players at this point? So many questions.... |

I was not expecting him to resign, so wow, I was not expecting him to be at ETSU next year either. I figured he was going to get hired away into an FBS school. This is interesting.

Agree - when I first saw mention I expected it was a move and not a resignation. Reading the ETSU board, there is at least a few posters saying he had let the administration know about this previously. Who knows what the real story is, but it certainly would seem to be something they should have made the team and recruiting targets know. It will be fascinating to see who leaves and who they lose from their verbal commits.
