Spartans cashed in on a leadoff walk with an RBI double to take the lead, stranding a runner with consecutive infield groundouts.

This is looking to be a bad night for the Catamounts. Getting their clock cleaned in baseball by Upstate, and getting run over by the Spartans in basketball, 33-21 in the first half.

I knew this would be a tough game, but I didn't expect s whopping this bad.
FINAL - USC Upstate 9, WCU 3
Spartans use a 6-run 8th inning to turn back WCU, handing the Catamounts their first defeat of the season. Pascanel Ferreras, Nate Stocum both collected two hits apiece in loss.

Had a friend with me at the game. No connection with WCU, but really knowledgeable about the game of baseball. His unsolicited comment, as we were riding home, "Western just did not seem to have a fire in their belly... their overall play was kinda lethargic".
I could not disagree with him.
Best part of the trip was seeing some folks I had not seen in a couple of years, like Paul and Nora Jones. Also was good to see Wayne Tolleson and Jack Leggett, a couple of great contributors to Catamount baseball in years past.
