A former star Football player and All American track star for Western Carolina from Gainesville HS in Georgia Mike Malone.
Mike is the head football Coach at Chattahoochee HS in Alpharetta, Ga.

Easy.............JERRY GAINES Nope going with EJ (Eric Johnson). Gonna give him the slight edge. If you saw him play in 99 you understand. EJ was 2 time all American in football and drafted in 3rd by the Indians and played on Bears practice squad. Eric was phenomenal

Jerry Gaines is the only three-sport All-American in WCU history..He was an NCAA Division ll All-American selection in 1974 and helped the Catamounts to a 9-1 record and the national playoffs...He is one of two football players to have his jersey and number 23 retired and established over 40 football records as he caught 187 passes for 3,449 yards in four seasons...A track and field All-American in the long jump and triple jump in 1971 and 1972...His records stood for allmost twenty years....He batted .404 in 1975 and was named NCAA Division ll All-American and North Carolina College Athlete of the year...He signed with the Texas Rangers in 1975....

Danny Tharpe,All Conference Basketball & Football 60's. Danny Tharpe was in the Class of 1964. I do not recall him playing football; certainly not All-North State Conference. 1963 and 1964 yearbooks confirm that he played basketball and baseball.
