We do not have lobbyists that have interest in athletics. I'm sure UNC Charlotte's administration pushed their athletics needs to their state reps. To my knowledge, it is the first time that our state general assembly has ever funded a athletics only facility, but our people should have known what was going on and made our pitch.

I would like to add to my previous post about the $25 million that UNCC got from the NC General Assembly....I'm sure our priority this time around was the new Engineering building...and I understand that. $95 million is quite a haul from the state. So, I apologize to our lobbyists, administrators, etc. for not seeing the BIG picture, but I'm frustrated that we don't seem to be getting close to funding the much needed new athletics facilities. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Sorry if I offended anyone. The funding for the engineering building was a nice get and needed by WCU. However, what do you think Chapel Hill, NC State, East Carolina, and UNCC have gotten for various buildings over the last few years? I can assure you, what WCU got was peanuts compared to what the big four have gotten. No need for an apology when speaking the truth... WCU needs funds to upgrade its stadium, 100% more than UNC-Concrete needs to EXPAND its stadium. |

When I was a student, I overheard HF Robinson say all the money stays within 50 miles of Raleigh and everyone else gets crumbs. Sadly academic types will never truly see the importance of fully funded winning sports teams. |
