Why would we be going after a kid that offers from tons of power 5 schools? Waste of time for the most part I think the theory is you get your foot in the door and have a relationship, and if the bigger schools fall away later in the process - which often happens - you were "among the first to show interest"

I’ll also say, I knew people in the North Carolina and South Carolina high school schools that over the last five or six years (before Bell and company) had basically said I do not want Western on my campus because of how the coaches would come in and talk bad about the kids abilities of being able to play FCS football. Mark Speir’s name never came up as one who acted like that but many assistant coaches did.
I will also say that from following and playing football in high school in North Carolina I still do not think North Carolina is a hotbed of football talent. They have nothing on Florida and Texas and other states like that. It’s not to say, that there are not great football players, that we can choose from, but for the last number of years, we have target of these other states that seem to have better talent. All this is in my opinion other than the parts about western not being wanted on campuses. The bells are working on fixing these relationships with the high school coaches.

NICSAINT JOSEPH JR 6’2 | 165lbs WR & CB Florida I respectively disagree. NC always produces great talent. Look back at the 4 and 5 star players out of NC. Dexter Lawrence, KJ Henry, Zamir White, Todd Gurley, Travis Shaw, Jalen Carter, Sage Surratt, Kennan Allen and many more. I'm not saying we lead the nation in overall talent. What I am saying is tradionally, WCU does not do a good job of recruiting NC. I completely understand Coach Bell recruits areas where he's had success in the past. Where he has existing relationships. I'm very well versed in high school recruiting and friends with a lot of coaches in NC. Throughout the years, D1 to D3 coaches visit big programs throughout the state. Reidsville, Shelby, Crest, Dudley, North Eastern, Wake Forrest, Tarboro, Burns, Maiden, Page, East Forsyth, North Davidson, East Surry, Mt Airy, Kings Mountain along with many others produce college level talent at all levels. You can't convince me that Western just ignores NC Talent because they can find better talent in other areas. Every other college in the state along with Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, ND and other Power Five and G5 programs find talent here. App State finds great in state talent. Never darkening the doors of coaches in NC is a missed opportunity. Perfect example, WCU legend, Lonnie Galloways son is a 2025 OL. Getting group of 5 offers. Several FCS offers...does he have WCU offer...nope!
