Interesting. The article mention UNCA should have another good year next year. I like our chances next year against UNCA. I was worried about losing Claude. But seems like we have added size and ability at the post so I don’t think it is that much of a loss. It is kind of weird that Claude left because Coach gave him a chance to shine that he never got before. These kids need to be more grateful for the chances they get. If he goes somewhere else, he might not be a starter.

Remains to be seen if we have replaced Claude in the post. The two transfers - one a redshirt who has never played in a college game - and the other - a bench player at College of Charleston - might be the answer, but we don't know. Kamar Robinson, the transfer from Mercer, will help us and will probably step into Woolbright's spot. Have no idea what the impact the other additions will have. However, I think we will be a notch better and a lot of our competition got hit hard by the portal and graduation.

I think the kid from LSU will eventually be a very good player for us and think he is a notch above most SoCon players out of the gate. With that said, I have no idea how good he will be out of the gate. I think the other freshman post will be a project but he has potential. The guy from Charleston will help a lot in practice in my opinion. I thought Woolbright was coming back next year but maybe I missed that he has transferred. He still has eligibility. I think we could possibly win 20 some games next year if the stars align but at this point that is all conjecture. I do know this for a fact. We upgraded coaches big time with Grey when Prosser left.

As of now, Woolbright is coming back, with Claude, Harris and Gilmore the only departures. I like Claude and am sorry he left, but the freshman and CofC guy are bulky kids who in theory can really help defensively. Claude can score, but his offensive game isn't all that polished - slow first step in the post - and I'm hopeful that the LSU transfer has a similar skillset. Our guard and wing game will be really deep and strong. I'm pretty optimistic. retiredcat will know best, but this will probably be the tallest front court Western has ever had: 6-11/6-10/6-9/6-9 Lampten/Siler/Williams/Granger I've been paying attention since the mid-seventies and I don't remember one

I know it is not practical, but wouldn’t it be great to see then all on the court together in the same game with 5’8” Russel Jones Jr. Running the point. Lol Seriously though, the old adage is you can’t coach height. Being 6’10” is a skill in itself. If you get the ball to a 6’10” guy in the SoCon, the defense has to collapse in meaning someone or multiple people will be open on the outside.

Basketball is not made now to have all that height on the court. Speed with a great outside shot is the game now

Also having an inside threat frees up the perimeter guys for more open shots. That may be the game now, but an inside threat adds a dimension that some teams don’t have.
