Karen is just another coach that has been successful everywhere they have been except for Western. That tells me something and it should tell us all something. Intercollegiate Athletic success is not a priority at Western a Carolina. Why else does successful coach after coach come to Western and fail. It is because of lack of support by the Administration.

Without a doubt budgets come into play when looking at WCU's athletic performance. But what is not often discussed but given a passing glance is the rural location. Let's face it, for any student to be successful at WCU they need to really enjoy the great outdoors. Those that would rather be inside and/or in an urban environment will struggle with the "lack of things to do", the slower pace of everything, fewer creature comforts to name a few.

Sorry, but La Cross is a little larger than Cullowhee and not as rural as you thought... La Crosse in Wisconsin is the county seat of La Crosse County. Positioned alongside the Mississippi River, La Crosse is the largest city on Wisconsin's western border. La Crosse's population as of the 2020 census was 52,680. The city forms the core of and is the principal city in the La Crosse–Onalaska Metropolitan Area, which includes all of La Crosse County and Houston County, Minnesota, with a population of 139,627. A regional technology, medical, education, manufacturing, and transportation hub, La Crosse is also a college town, with over 20,000 students and is the home to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; Viterbo University; and Western Technical College. You are correct. Looks like a very depressing place to live. Actually, it's not, I've been there several times when I would make trips to Fort McCoy while I was on active duty, it's really a nice place. However, it's damn cold in the winter and averages about 48 inches of snow per winter.
