Defense: The defense was just fine but was a bit worse later in the season. They bring back most of the key contributors, but lose 1 important guy at every level. Still, they should be a little better thanks to a strong secondary.
Schedule: 1-2 is almost guaranteed in the non-con, but the terriers got a bad draw. Their "easiest" games are on the road, and the SoCon favorites have to come to them. That’s going to lower the win total for a team that’s slightly rebuilding.
Prediction: 4-7 (3-5)
have a new head coach, changed their offense, and lost 13 players to the transfer portal, including last season's starting QB, Jimmy Weirick.
I think that these "so called "experts" and presumed season predictors do one of two things or a mix of both. They put these so called analytical computer numbers and go with whatever the computer predicts or they just base everything on our history and for them its safe to say we will be "at the best" mediocre or worse because over the last nearly 40 years we really haven't shown any reason for them to predict otherwise. Predicting us to either have a losing record or mediocre near .500 record is just a safe bet because to those outside of Cullowhee and that of our fanbase its just the historically sad program of WCU.
Of course, analytics does not predict real success on the field, heart or talent and I bet many of them don't even realize how talented this team is that Bell has recruited. On paper, it does seem to be one of the most talented overall we have had in a long time. However, many are still young and green and we have Bell so my prediction is we will be 7-4 and finish either 3rd or tied for 3rd place this year. I think we will improve from last year, I think we will threaten at the top half of the conference, but I am not ready this year to comfortably put on my purple shades and predict a SOCON Championship or a playoff appearance this year, yet. Again I do hope I get proven wrong and we do make the playoffs or even better win the SOCON this year but my gut feeling just feels like we will be a really scary 7-4 team. I am going to go ahead and say it, next year I feel like we make the playoffs . But I am very excited about this year and plan to attend every home game plus also the Wofford game.
