Interesting scenario...I had not thought about ticket sales if Furman was to lose to Samford and how that woud affect ticket sales.
So, which way are we better off? Do we want Furman to beat Samford and come to Cullowhee where beating us probably knocks us out of the SoCon race? Or lose to Samford....come to Cullowhee and we beat them to end their SoCon race? Or let them come to Cullowhee after beating Samford and we beat them then? And imagine how far we would rise in polls in the last scenario?
Let's not be greedy!

Generally speaking, for the SOCON’s case you’d want your top teams to win as many as possible. To get seeded the league champ will need to be undefeated in conference games (pretty much needs to be undefeated in all FCS games unless you play another really high-ranked team). If there was any way for 2 SOCON teams to sniff a seed it would be for the WCU and Furman game to be really close and both teams then win all the rest of their FCS games.
I honestly don’t think Furman’s outcome this weekend will actually impact next weekend’s crowd. Regardless of what happens, next week’s game (and the following against Mercer) will be for WCU to either take control of the top of the conference or to remain within striking distance. We’d love to win both. We need to win at least 1. Lose both and we quickly become a bubble-team even if we finish 8-3. So the Furman and Mercer games are huge for Western regardless of what those 2 teams do this weekend .

If Samford beats Furman it will help Western's cause in the SoCon race and give Furman there first loss.....Then if we beat Furman at home Oct. 21st they have lost two conference games and pretty much out of SoCon race.....To be honest I hope alot of people come to the Furman game but winning the game is all that matters....I don't want to pull for other SoCon teams to win because of the playoffs and then later it bites us in the ass....This weekend I'm pulling for CHATTANOOGA AND SAMFORD TO WIN BIG TIME because that helps us in the SoCon race and if we win that we are in the playoffs.....Let the chips fall for other SoCon teams.....

That is completely logical and no doubt it would help WCU with some breathing room. My point is I don't want to care about those other games. WCU needs to simply keep winning.

I’d love to see a record crowd but no point in fretting about fall break. If you are going to the game just worry about getting as many friends as possible to come with you😃

Or let them come to Cullowhee after beating Samford and we beat them then? And imagine how far we would rise in polls in the last scenario? Let's not be greedy! I think we're talking about a combination of different things in this thread. In regards to ticket sales, a previous point made was that if Furman loses their fans won't travel and therefor we'll sell less tickets to them. I could see both sides where that is the case but I could also see more of them coming because this game will mean that much more to them since they have to win out to keep their conference championship/playoff hopes alive. In regards to a hypothetical playoff berth, I think Furman beating Samford would obviously keep them at or near the top 5 in both polls which would make it a more "impressive" win when we beat them but I don't think them losing to Samford would cause them to drop enough where it would seriously hurt us if we're 10-1 and the outright SoCon title from a seeding perspective. In regards to a conference championship, obviously it helps give us a bit more cushion if Furman loses to Samford. We already have the head to head win against Chattanooga and Mercer already has a conference loss as well. Assuming we beat Furman and Mercer, while we cannot afford to let off the gas, our remaining three opponents are all not great this year. Personally, I want to see this team win a conference championship more than anything else this season. That's something that has never been done in the history of the program and getting that burden off our backs would be huge. Obviously a playoff berth would follow, so it's an important discussion, but since I can't root for the Catamounts to win this weekend I am rooting for whatever makes the road to us winning a conference championship the most attainable so go Chattanooga and go Samford. Ultimately we control our own destiny right now, which is an awesome place to be. Win out and we win the conference championship regardless of what anyone else does.

Yes I want WCU to keep winning as well but since they have a bye it would be nice to pull for other teams that can help us in the SoCon race.....Does that sound logical to you?

Totally logical.....we should pull for Samford to beat Furman. That is in our best interest to win the SoCon.

I am pulling for Samford to beat Furman but we still have to beat Furman to remain responsible for our own destiny because if Furman beats us after losing to Samford and then Furman wins the rest of their games, they will win the SoCon because they beat us in head to head competition. Now if Chattanooga beats Mercer today, and then we beat Furman next week, we can lose to Mercer and we will still win the conference because Mercer will have 2 losses. That is if we win out and beat Wofford, ETSU and VMI which if we stay focussed is very probable.
if Furman loses today and then beats us next week, we will need Chattanooga to beat Furman and we have to beat Mercer to win the conference.
The best thing for Western is to win the rest of our games and not worry about what the other teams do.

We are going to get everyone’s best shot going forward.
