Hard to say. Kade learned from his dad, and there’s never been a doubt to me who’s the captain of the ship. We’ll keep running the same offense. The DC change this week made me think Kerwin was bringing in his old friend to get ahold of the defense so he can focus on the offense We have to hope that Cole Gonzalez has hope and stays. Pitt does not want Cole Gonzalez. Cole would never see the field at Pitt.

Man I thought people cried and bitched when we were bad. Some people have gone on another level now that we are winning. If you didn’t think schools would be coming for Kade based on his offense and the stats you were absolutely delusional.

I recall many saying “I hope we get good enough where our coaches get poached”….you got it, now live with it….
I’m a little pissed off and an being direct and blunt after watching the "Censored Word" show of the panthers game this afternoon, but if you want success you will have to not be surprised when a coach’s leaves and we have to replace. He’s probably going to make a mil a year give or take some. We have nothing to offer and, again, the sky is not falling. This is the by product of success.

This is a weird situation. This is different because our head coach is his dad. Would a good son do that to his father? It can’t be just business when you are talking about close family. The first thing Kade should do is retract the scholarship offer to CJ Lee because of the way it looks and not offer Desmond Reid. It would be kind of underhanded to do that to your dad. Also, Pitt probably does not want most of the players we are recruiting anyway. They are going after 4 star and will take a 3 star but prefer higher ranked players. I am talking about what is right, not what will happen. I think that Kerwin will call the plays next year and hopefully train someone to be the kind of OC he wants. I know it will not be as fun for Kerwin next year as it has been and he will probably miss his son and his family. Who can blame Kade though? He is young and will be a big time FBS head coach some day. I would agree. Even if not the case, it has somewhat of an appearance of some shady dealing with Kade leaving for Pitt and an offer to CJ Lee at the same time. The two may not be connected at all but appearance matters. I had hoped Kade would stay around for a couple more years to really leave a solid foundaion and a SoCon championship first.

I would bet Kade let the players know he was leaving and maybe that he was going to Pitt and the delay in the announcement is from working out the details of signing of contracts, the Pitt BOT’s approving and everything else that has to happen. Just my guess. Either way as I have mentioned in other posts with firsthand conversations of HS coaches, the portal is very very dirty and corrupt.

Yep, this portal business is really slimy, as is the ncaa in all this. It is starting to turn me off of college sports entirely.

I think we are assuming the worst, While I do not know personally how the relationship between father and son is, based on the past before WCU, and during WCU, i am sure Kade has spoken to his dad and for all we know, Kerwin may have told Kade to do what is best for his career (Kade is an up and comer) Kerwin has already made a great career. Kerwin may have told him to get experience and other takes from coaches, Kerwin may have even OKed Lee to transfer to Pitt with Kade to help Kade succeed. I think Kerwin wants to see his son succeed and knows we have enough WRs, RBs etc on our roster for WCU to succeed. So before we start blasting Kade there may be as much to the story as we think. Of course, we want all our stars to stay (coaches, players) but its a different time and as long as Kerwin can adapt we will be fine.

We should all remember that Kade Bell brought a whole bunch of his Tusculum players to Cullowhee, and many if not all of them were big contributors (at least in his first and second years). Not sure I saw anybody complaining about that since we benefited, so as 07 said this is the world we now live in and we have to put up with it.
Losing coaches and players to the "big" schools means we had good coaches and players. That is a good thing. As for Kade, I expect he is going to be paid at least 4x what he was making in Cullowhee (and probably around 2x what his dad makes). As a 30-year old in the coaching profession, you absolutely have to jump at these opportunities when they come your way. I mean if everybody hung around at Western our head coach would be Matt Rhule, our DC would be Geoff Collins, and we would have somebody like Lonnie Galloway or Kade Bell as our OC. It just doesn't work that way at most FCS schools.
Kerwin Bell is the biggest reason for our turnaround. What Kade does on offense he learned from his dad. If the new DC hire can make strides on that side of the ball, and Kerwin goes 100% all-in on the offense, with the kinds of skill players we have I think we will be ok. We needed to get better in the trenches and with depth, so that should remain our focus.

I would believe that they have talked constantly about this decision and as a dad, before a coach, I’d think Kerwin would have said something like “you are out of your damn mind if you don’t leave and take it”

Personally, I would be surprised if Pitt hired Kade Bell as Offensive Coordinator. It's a big risk in a tough conference with loads of very very good and experienced coaches. I could see Pitt hiring Kerwin as the OC and Kade as the QB coach.....just saying. But - you never know. Well, shows how much I know. Good luck to him.
