As Coach Corso says on College Football GameDay...."not so fast". There is a lot of private money to be raised, fees approval by the NC Board of Governors and General Assembly and hoops to jump through before we will see construction. I hope I'm wrong, but I thinking two years from now at the earliest. BUT, the good news is that our current administration is working towards what needs to be done to make us competitive in recruiting for several sports.

I hope I'm wrong, but I thinking two years from now at the earliest. BUT, the good news is that our current administration is working towards what needs to be done to make us competitive in recruiting for several sports. You know more than me, but this is the first time I have read anywhere that we are going to start building before all the money is raised. Also, one article said they have raised $47 million of the $75 million campaign. Of that $75 million campaign, $30 million is for athletic facilities and $15 million of the $30 million has been raised per the press. So it sounds like we have $45 million for athletic facilities already raised when you add the $15 million raised to the $30 million money provided by the increased student fees. The articles said they will start with football. You are probably right on the timing but it sounds like the Chancellor is going to let us start on football facilities with the $45 million. Now all we have to do is wait to find out who they will name the stadium for after the improvements are done. Probably whoever gave the most. lol. I have a guess but will not post it.

WCU will not rename its football stadium, field or field house...that would be political suicide. However, the new upper level on the east side could get some corporate and political name. The new west side tower (press box, Chancellor's box, club level seating, student success center) could receive designation to honor donors. The big one that will be available for naming will be the new strength and conditioning/performance center on the northwest side of the stadium. I don't see E.J. Whitmire Stadium, Bob Waters Field and Jordan=Phillips Field House going away.

I don't see a new stadium name occuring either and if they were to try and rename Bob Waters Field there will be a revolt among the many fans and alums who loved him and who remember him so well.

Does anyone have the renderings? I saw them on a Facebook post yesterday morning but can’t find it now! I thought they were really weird looking and kinda underwhelming so I am starting to wonder if it was a dream haha.
We wanted to rebuild the upper deck of the east side which didn’t make sense to me. Anyone got the pictures?

I have been critical of past Western Carolina Administrative leaders but I have to say that Dr. Brown is trying to do more for athletic facilities than any Chancellor in the past 100 years. She is doing this and also improving academics and landing funding for key academic initiatives like funding for the new Engineering facilities. i am proud that Dr. Brown is our Chancellor and because of her vision and leadership, we are going to finally be able to improve our aging athletic facilities. I am always impressed when she speaks of our students. It is obvious to me that she puts student care and success as her top priority while always being modest about her achievements and giving others credit when talking about achievements. As an alumnus, I would like to say thank you to Dr. Brown for her service and leadership to our great University.

The upper level concrete of the east side of the stadium is crumbling. It will be replaced by two entertainment decks and 1,500 to 2,000 seats similar to the west side seats. The lost seating will be more than made up by the addition of another section of seating on the west side. In addition, there will be club level seating on the west side along with a new press box. It will give Whitmire Stadium a first-class look for our level of football.
